But the rug shows little use- looks wonderful! This rug came out of a VERY dusty old attic, and really needs cleaning. That attic held many other long-forgotten antique hooked and rag rugs. THE COLOR IS A CHERRY OR MAHOGANY SO I WOULD SAY MOST LIKELY ROSEWOOD. IT STANDS ABOUT 15" HIGH AND IS ABOUT 5" AT IT'S WIDEST POINT. THERE IS AN AGE OR NATURAL CRACK AT THE BASE THAT DOESN'T REALLY EFFECT THE PIECE. VERY DETAILED AND INTRICATE CARVING. An original 19th century circa 1870's-1890's miniature wood carved bust of a man. The man has a beard& is wearing a shirt with an open collar& a suit jacket. The man has his eyes closed& is slightly sticking his tongue out. The bust is complete as originally made without arms. The one piece wood carving terminates at the bottom with a circular pedestal. There are a number of in period chips missing off of the wood pedestal. All of the areas of the missing wood have excellent old patina. There is some wear& a there are a few little scratches to the carving. This carved bust turned up in an early Reading. Pa. estate a number of decades ago with a group of assorted 19th century objects. We have enjoyed the carving for decades on our shelf& have just recently decided to offer it for sale. We have never been fortunate ... moreenough to pin down this early carving to a specific carver. So, we are offering it at a modest price. Perhaps someone out there in eBay land will know the specific carver that made it. This charming little carving measures a mere 3 1/8 inches tall by 1 7/8 inches across his shoulders& 1 1/2 inches deep. The carving has a very pleasing patina from over a century of natural aging& also from being handled. Attention to the carving details is carried to the extreme. This is a fabulous one-of-a-kind piece of Indian carving art. Would make a great statement in your collection. Yakshi is a female earthly spirit symbolizing fertility. Her references are found in Hindu. Buddhist and Jain mythologies. 19TH CENTURY VICTORIAN ARMORIAL SHIELD HANDCARVED ARCHITECTURAL ORNAMENT
This architectural ornament is beautifully handcarved out of mahogany and measures 13 x 14 1/2 inches. Surface retains it's original white paint which was used to look like marble. The armorial shield dominates the center with beautifully carved volutes surrounding. This was probably used on the outside of a building and probably done by a shipcarver. Shipcarvers not only advertised work on figureheads and other ship ornaments but also architectural carvings. The very end of the left hand scroll is a separate piece but is original. EARLY 19th CENTURY SPANISH COLONIAL CARVED WOOD AND POLYCHROME SANTO
Superb colonial santo. Mexican school, early 19th century. This is a Virgin of Guadalupe. Standing on a sliver of moon supported by an angel atop a carved and painted pedestal. She measures 29 inches high, 11 inches wide and 7.5 inches deep. Her condition is very good for her age. A few of the spines around her are missing and there is some age-related weathering to the colors of her raiment, but the piece has been restored and waxed by an expert to preserve it. This santo is authentic. It was bought by an experienced collector and restorer in Mexico in the early 1970s. I inherited it. INCREDIBLE 19TH CENTURY BLACK FOREST PIPE HOLDER W FIVE CARVED ANIMAL HEADS
This auction is for a amazing piece of 19th century Black Forest carving. This is a pipe holder with five exquisitely carved animal heads. Each head is so detailed and beautifully colored. Each has glass eyes and not the same eyes. But an eye to fit it's personality. There are two bears a fox and what I think are 2 wild cats. They could be a different kind of bear but they look very cat like to me. They are fitted on a black ebonized wood rack with four holes for pipes. The pictures do not do this carving justice as the camera does not translate their amazing presence. The detail from their tongues to teeth to the fur to the very expressive eyes melt your heart. This is the very best Black Forest carving I have seen. The animal heads are in great condition with the exception of one cat tongue which has a chipped end and a tiny flea bite ... moreon a bear tongue. The back rack piece has a old and very well done repair as shown in the last picture. It is so tightly repaired I would venture to say it is stronger than when it was new. I bought this at auction. on the bottom there is a piece of masking tape stating that this is St. Ignasius Loyola 1491- 1556 found of the society of Jesus(the Jesuits) I do not know how a prior owner knows that. The condithion is great for it's age. He has good facial features. He is missing his hands. There is finish loss in many places. He has a chip out of his collar in the front. Here is a very old Catholic religious saint carved wood figure. I don't recognize the saint off hand. I believe this is a late 18th early 19th century carving. European in origin and more than likely French. I believe the base on this statue is newer than the carving itself. He has very nice patina and wear polish from great age, his backside has a little wear from exposure, but still looks ok. His fingers on his staff hand are also broken, but doesn't stand out real bad. His overall height is approx. 10" Really nice piece, fresh out of an estate.

19th Century Black Forest Nutcracker in the Form of a Mountain Goat
This is an unusual piece of Black Forest Carving. The head of the goat is very finely carved. With great attention to detail. The hair of the goat is done in fine lines and the nose is lends an air of nobility to the piece. The elaborately exaggerated and rounded horns have been elaborately carved to give the animal a distinct look. The ends of the horns continue into the ears. Which are upright. The glass eyes have dark centers for pupils. This nutcracker has a nice brown color with a soft patina that has been gradually built up over the years. This piece is from the Black Forest region of Germany and dates from the late 19th century. Whether or not the jaws are open to receive the nut. Antique wooden religious mission statue. Hands have been lost over time which is usual for most old Santos statues. The wings which were made of wood have been lost as well but does not take away from the overall beauty of the piece and is typical for statues of this age. The wings signifies of him being an angel. Antique 19th Century Footed American Native Woven Lidded Reed Basket Alligator
For sale is what I believe an early American possibly native peoples lidded woven footed basket with a carved alligator decoration on walnut panel on its woven lid. The construction appears to be early 19th cent. before 1850 from similar baskets I have seen from native peoples and from this period. I do not have any documentation or provenance concerning these representations. This is an educated guess on my part from dealing with antiques and collectibles for over 40 years. I recall I obtained this piece somewhere along the East coast many years ago. But I do not recall which state. I want to say New England states, Georgia, or Florida, but not sure. The basket with lid measures approximately 5" in length by 3 5/8" wide by 2 1/2" in height.

19th or 20th Century Hand Carved Wood Chinese Immortal Figurine Sculpture. Super carving 16" tall of Immortal with fish and basket. Glass teeth, glass eyes, glass eyes on fish as well. Some damage to the fish tale, as you can see in the picture. Immortal figure is in Good Condition with some damage as seen in the images. Minor Cracks in the Wood do to Age, no repaired parts.
