Antique Oval Wood Framed 18th Century Scene by Allen Eaton Bookstore
This framed picture was completed by the Allen Eaton bookstore in Eugene Oregon between 1902 and 1915. The store opened in 1902 and was closed by Eaton in 1915. Eaton has been called America's leading handicrafts advocate. In his book on Eaton. Prof David Van Dommlen writes of Eaton's advocacy to American crafts. We believe this frame and picture are true examples of this dedication. The wood frame is oval and is 9 inches wide and 7.5 inches high. The rim of the frame has a metalwork design. There is one flaw in the metalwork about three inches down on the right side(see photo#6) The picture is of a lady in what appears to 18th century clothing standing next to a stream. Up for auction is a pair of 18th Century Italian Exotic Lions Heads. These are hand carved gilded and leafed. Integrity wise they are in very good condition. The finish does need some restoration in places where it has chipped off. these were purchased from a dealer in Paris around 2001. They were described as"18th Century Hand-carved Exotic Porpoise Heads" I describe them as Lion's heads because I think they look more like a lion. There are six of these in existence and originally surrounded an interior gazebo type structure as I was told by the dealer. Four of them were sold as supports for a table. I purchased the remaining two. These would be exquisite as the ending of a banister of a grand staircase or the supports of a bench or table where the back would sit against the wall. Here is a very old Catholic religious saint carved wood figure. I don't recognize the saint off hand. I believe this is a late 18th early 19th century carving. European in origin and more than likely French. I believe the base on this statue is newer than the carving itself. He has very nice patina and wear polish from great age, his backside has a little wear from exposure, but still looks ok. His fingers on his staff hand are also broken, but doesn't stand out real bad. His overall height is approx. 10" Really nice piece, fresh out of an estate.

Up for sale is a very large 35" long hand carved corbal from Europe. It is exceptionally carved with intricate details. The corbal measures 35" tall x 4" wide x 9 1/2" deep. Franciscan Monk Religious Oak Figure with Glass Eyes. 18th Century or Earlier On offer here is an exceptional carved oak figure of a Franciscan monk. Possibly Burgundian and very likely earlier than 18th century. It was acquired by dealers visiting the central and southern regions of France and subsequently purchased by me in Johannesburg. He measures a formidable 72 cm tall and 36 cm across from hand-to-hand(or 28.3 by 13.2 inches) Please note the condition: his hands are removable and the right hand is fixed in place with a screw that easily is removed. There is arrested worming damage as evidenced in the photos. The glass eyes are incredibly rare and are generally used to authenticate an earlier religious figure. I have not had this dated. But am placing an 18th century estimate on it to be on the safe side. When sold to me, it was described ... moreas 17th century or earlier. The reasons I was drawn to this figure are two-fold: 1st. 17th/18th CENTURY CARVED WOOD ARCHITECTURAL PANEL w GOLD LEAF& PAINT DECORATION This small panel measures 6 1/4 by 7 1/2 by 1 3/4 inches and is carved out of one piece of wood. Beautiful deep carving with original gold leaf and paint decoration. The carving may be a Coat of Arms. It shows small holes from a wood boring beetle but they are long gone and there is no active insect remaining. I think this piece is French judging by the type of carving and was probably incorporated originally in some larger architectural feature. CONDITION: Fair to good. There are small pin holes all over from insects but there is no sign they are still active. One corner has some damage. The piece is solid though with no sign of further damage.

18th Century Colonial Era Carved Wood Doll Statue Ori Paint Red Coat Buckle Shoe
This auction is for a nice early carving as seen. From the late 1700's. Not sure if it is American or British. The head, body, legs and base he is standing on is carved from one piece, the arms are attached with wood pegs. His right arm has been repaired as seen. The paint all looks original. The lower base may be a bit newer as it is nailed. This is a nice early piece. Please see photo's. Please check my other auctions for more interesting items. I can’t begin to tell you the powerful spirit unusual feeling that came over me when I saw this in this antique shop! When I acquired about it. I learned that it is several hundreds years old! Holding it is something you can’t even imagine! How sacred and prevailing it felt! I am told that it is“Santo Nicho” However I am certain that collectors of primitive artifacts can clarify whom this is. When I took a close look it. I saw markings that appear to perhaps signatures! The box itself measures approximately 21” ... morex 11” x 6” The inner saint carving stands approximately 10” The wood is substantially old; therefore part of the box needs some re-nailing.
