Antique Carved Folk Art Figure of an African American Stump Speaker 18th-19th C.
This is an unusual and quite insulting carved figure of an African American gentleman. He is dressed in 18th or early 19th century costume. With knee breeches, fancy waistcoat, and long coat. He is standing on what appears to be a tree stump, which makes me feel he is a caricture of an black politician or preacher. He stands 4 1/4 inches high and is carved from a single piece of wood. On the base are two sets of inscriptions. One set is initials in pencil and the second is a series of numbers in ink, which look like museum accession numbers.

This item was acquired by my friends mother in France sometime in the 1950s. It would have originally had glass eyes embedded in it. It appears that the eyes were stolen at some point giving him a semi creepy"Oedipus Rex" look. This is a partial statue artifact that includes the head and shoulders and the beginning of the wings. It measures approx. 12" diagonally, the head is about 6" long& 5" wide. 18th-19th Century Carved Wood Catholic Saint Statue European French? Santos
Here is a very old Catholic religious saint carved wood figure. I don't recognize the saint off hand. I believe this is a late 18th early 19th century carving. European in origin and more than likely French. I believe the base on this statue is newer than the carving itself. He has very nice patina and wear polish from great age, his backside has a little wear from exposure, but still looks ok. His fingers on his staff hand are also broken, but doesn't stand out real bad. His overall height is approx. 10" Really nice piece, fresh out of an estate.

Up for sale is a very large 35" long hand carved corbal from Europe. It is exceptionally carved with intricate details. The corbal measures 35" tall x 4" wide x 9 1/2" deep. There is a blemish or 2 but nothing serious(see Pictures) There is a white spot of something on the side smaller than a fingerprint. Antique 19th 18th Cent Grotto Putti w Shell Bracket Shelve Shelf Giltwood Carved
Up for consideration is a fine matched pair of 19th Century or possibly earlier Italian Grotto Style or Venetian Rococo figural Putti brackets. They measure 7 inches tall. Including the eyelets by 5 1/4 inches wide by 4 1/2 inches deep. They may have been polychromatic at one time or gilt with red painted highlights. The Gilt color looks to be added on some time later in their life. Although diminutive in size matched pairs of this age form and quality are difficult to encounter.
