Vintage Hamilton Wood Printer's Type Letterpress Tray Shadow Box with Handle
VINTAGE HAMILTON WOODEN PRINTER'S TYPE DRAWER TRAY This is a neat old printer's type drawer. It has multi-shaped compartments. I have included a photo of a manufacturer's mark that is stamped in the tray. It is The Hamilton Mfg Co Two Rivers. Wis. Also stamped in the tray is New Departure Patented. The tray has a steel handle stamped HAMILTON and a cutout slot that identifies what font of type the drawer held. The drawer is very nice condition with a wood back. I have not done any cleaning on the drawer. I am listing three of these identical drawers. They are all in similar condition. Antique Nik Nac Shelf. Printers Tray, Letterpress Drawer Typeset This is an antique solid wood type set. Printer drawer or tray that can be used as a wonderful nic nak shelf. It is very solid wood. Probably oak, may have a different wood on the back. This one is 1.5" deep. 32" tall and about 16.5" wide. These are big. Almost a yard wide! However. Looks great displayed tall or wide. There may be sections where the dividers were intentionally removed to allow for some larger item. The white you see is the residue from tape that I removed from the edges. Should sand off easily. There is a thicker long side. This was the front of the drawer, which was a drawer pull. There is separation of the back boards. Or a crack, not visible from the front. There may be peeling paper backing in some areas. The paper is loose and will be easy ... moreto remove. It can be refinished for a more refined look or left in as it is. Drawer was originally used to hold metal or wooden type for letterpress printers. You can hang either horizontal or vertical to display your objects. Drawer is full of charm and would be great for displaying your collections. These are quite old and well used. Please enlarge the pictures for a detailed view. Perfect for your primitives. Prim collections, marbles, thimbles or shabby, farmhouse or country look. I've also seen them painted wild colors with little hooks applied and used to hang jewelry! Antique Industrial LETTERPRESS/PRINTER'S TYPE TRAY Wood w COPPER? TRIM SHADOWBOX
Here's a unique antique printer's type tray or drawer that would make a nice addition to an industrial or primitive antique decor. Use it as is or use it as a"shadowbox" to display small treasures. Miniatures and/or photos. It has strips of copper(or. Possibly brass) trimming the top of the horizontal-running dividers. This trim has a really nicely aged patina. The color of the metal and the fact that there are spots of green-colored oxidation on it lead me to believe that it is copper. The edge of the tray/drawer where the handle is located is covered in painted metal(as is the handle) The handle was designed so that a card/sturdy paper can be slid into it. I do not find a manufacturer's name or any other identifying information on it. This may or may not be a Hamilton; I don't know what the two H's and the rest of the engraving on the metal handle indicate. Used in a print shop to store type set for printing. If is is in fact a Hamilton tray. That company was founded in 1880 by James Edward Hamilton of Two Rivers Wisconsin. If it's not Hamilton, I would guess that it is of the same era. It has 240 openings: 24 measure 1.75" x 2.25" 72 measure 1.25" x 1.75" and 144 measure 0.75" x 1" This piece has hangers on the back for vertical hanging but it could easily hangs horizontally. The whoe piece measures 17" x 33" It does have two of the medium shelves cracked in half. But the pieces are still somewhat attached and can be glued.
