Worthy of the Vatican Museum, made of solid silver in France in the late 19th century(circa 1870) This is a spectacular piece of sacred art, full of beauty and style and with hallmarks in all its parts. The chalice is in perfect condition and so is the paten that comes with it, engraved with the initials IHS, the cross and the Sacred Heart: the classic acronym symbolizing Christ. The paten and chalice set boast an inimitable beauty, specially the first one, whose big size let the silversmith that made it display his or her art in the shape of wonderful decorative engraved motives. The chalice’s base is big and is decorated with grape bunches symbolizing the wine that turns into Jesus Christ’s Blood during the Eucharist. We can see Saint Peter, a female figure(probably Virgin Mary) and a scene depicting the Virgin at the foot of the crucified Christ. Over the base, the central node is decorated with figs and grapes and winged angel heads. The cup is also beautifully engraved. It is made up by an openwork silver stand hat holds the cup itself. Made of flat silver. The stand is embellished with several engravings: one of them depicts a female figure with an anchor, the traditional attribute of St. Philomena. We can also see an image of the Virgin with a cross and the Sacred Host. Finally, there is also another woman with three small kids. These images, highly beautiful, are separated by three engravings depicting plants: wheat, a fig and rushes. Both the chalice and the paten have hallmarks in all their parts, at the cup and at the base, marks that testify for the origin and quality of the silver they are made of. This beautiful set comes from France and was made for military use. Both pieces are of simple design and are scarcely decorated. Something typical of the sober religious items used in the army. The chalice is a remarkable piece, not only because of its beauty and the precious metal it is made of but also because it can be dismantled in order to store it into the leather case. Both the chalice's cup and the paten bear hallmarks. The chalice’s design is simple: apart from the lathed stem and node. The only decorative detail it bears is a Greek cross with round frame engraved in the base. The set composed by the two pieces is attractive and sober, matching the military character of the article. ... moreAs usual. The cup’s base reproduces the motive also engraved at the chalice’s base: a series of crossed petals with vegetal decoration and shapes inspired in the fleur-de-lis. The cup is flat, with no decoration at all and made of fire-gilt silver. The paten is only decorated with a subtle Greek cross and a circle. Both engraved in the center of the piece. The paten and the chalice are hallmarked depicting a Minerva’s head(indicating that the set was made in France) and the other being the silversmith’s mark. The chalice is hallmarked at the cup and in at the base. The set comes in an antique case that has contributed to protect the items so they have survived to our days in such good condition. The set is completely made of sterling silver and bears hallmarks in all its parts. Marks that testify for the quality and origin of the noble metal. The design of both pieces is simple and attractive, with its elegant sturdiness and timeless beauty. The silver is decorated with hand-engraved motives and a great part of its surface has been embellished with a delicate golden shade. The chalice stands on an ample circular base decorated with a fringe with engraved motives. These motives depict grape bunches and fig leaves; these designs are closely related to the celebration of Eucharist. Over the base. The stem is crossed by a main node adorned with a similar but smaller fringe. The ... morecup is also engraved in this way, and at its base we can see some scallop-shaped motives, simple and elegant. This religious work of art dates from the 19th century and is in wonderful condition. Preserving its original style and beauty. The ciborium is decorated with hand-engraved motives, very elegant and that provide it with distinction and personality.A great antique. The ciborium’s base is ample and solid. Being decorated with hand-engraved motives that repeat all over the piece. We can see a fringe composed of slim semicircles and groups of four dots that create schematic flowers. My father and I made this hand made chalice using the lost wax process in 1966-67. The chalice weighs about 7 1/4 lbs and is made of solid(about 94.5% pure) silver. I now live in Coachella Valley. California, but was a priest in Detroit from 1968-1978. My design, represented in weight and exterior finish the beauty, weight and texture of life which I found as fitting symbolism in the first assignment I had as a Catholic Priest in the Inner City of Detroit at St. Agnes Catholic Church on 12th street just after the 1967 uprising. I served as a Deacon at St. Agnes before and during the 1967 civil uprising. I was assigned there as a co-pastor when I was ordained a Priest in June of 1967. We used a commercial steel foundry furnace at Mound Road and Outer Drive(I don't know if it still exists) to do the actual melting and pouring of the chalice. ... moreMy father finished the chalice once it was removed from the plaster mold in his workshop at home on his lathe. He turned the inside and lip on his lathe to the smooth finish you see in the photos. The chalice is in very good condition but was used in my ministry for 10 years. I am no longer active as a priest and feel that someone would make appropriate use of this art piece who is currently in active ministry. Superb Solid Sterling Silver William IV Period Cased Holy Communion Set. Each piece hallmarked for London 1830& bearing the makers mark for Charles Rawlings& William Summers. Condition as you can see is excellent with only very minor signs of use. The case does show signs of wear to the inside lining but works perfectly& has protected it's contents brilliantly over the years. With the outer leather covering being in superb condition. The chalice still retains its stunning interior gilding& the wine flask is complete with original hallmarked silver stopper. Beautiful set in stunning condition offered with no reserve! Size: Chalice is 3 3/8 inches tall. Pattern is 3 3/8 inches diameter& flask is 3 3/8 inches tall. Silver weight of three pieces:206.6 grams.
