This old metal tole tray is stamped on the back"hand painted by Pilgrim Art" inside of the company's artist pallet shape logo. This is a large retangular tray from the 1940's-1950's It has some wear and small scratches and small areas of missing paint. The back has some wear as well and 2 small rust spots( about 1/2 the size of a dime) Please email me if you would like additional pics. 12" x 22.5" The colors are very unusual for this era and type. It is all gold and the flowers are cream dogwood with green stems and leafs. A nice neutral for any decor. It would really go well with Tuscan themes that are so popular now. An original vintage Renzo Carli hand made serving tray. Many of these trays are produced in Italy but non compare with these from the Renzo Carli Florence workshop. This tray measures 8" across. The well defined 1" with lip border is in orange with gold gilt and very attractive design. This border gives added dimension to the black background center with a beautiful hand painted floral bouquet. This tray has never been used to serve with but only displayed on a wall as decoration. Still retains the original foil sticker of the Company. I have had many of these beautiful Italian made trays and other items in the past but Renzo Carli is by far the best. Most all of my listings are antique. Vintage or used items. For that reason they may have a mark or other imperfection. Vintage Tole Tray c1920s Papier Paper Mache Florentine Gold Floral
My grandmother had these. She got them for her wedding in the 1920s. I learned, as a young girl trying to be helpful, that you never, ever washed them in a sink filled with warm soapy water. Boy, did I learn. This tray. While not my grandmother's, appears to be of the same vintage. It's in relatively good shape with a small dark mark on the front(see photo number 4) a space on a corner where someone used a gold enamel pen to try to fill in some missing design, and a crack on the back measuring approximately one inch long. The crack does not go through to the front. Some of the edges show some chipping as well although they aren't visible until you are actually holding the tray. In all this is a great representation of tole trays from that era and in good shape considering its age. The paper is in a typical Florentine design. With ... morea micro-dotted background, swirls and flourishes with gold leaf, and tiny red flowers. The tray measures 12.25" long by 10.75" wide. With a Hand Painted Gold Band where the Tray Bottom meets the Sides and Finished with Gold on the Top Outside Tray Rim/Edge. The Leaf Veins are Defined with Tinges of Black and Brown Tones. Cut Out Handles Vintage Condition- No Dents- Some scratches. Mostly around the top edge and on the underside from normal use and storage. Some oxidation spots. Minimal wear and scratches to the Graceful Leaf and Vine Design. There are some shiny spots on the tray surface that you really don't see unless you look across it into a light source. The tray, box and coasters all have red coloring and gold gilt, and look like they go together. I believe the items(except for the little holder) are made of Balsa wood. The little holder is made of simulated leather that is laminated onto cardboard. TRAY The small hand painted tray is decorated with a patterned design of gold gilt set against a red background. It has gold gilt trim with small black accents. The edges are scalloped. It measures approximately 12" by 8 1/4" It has some paint ... morewear and scratches on the red and gold gilt decorations. There is an area with a dark stain mark. There is wear underneath the tray. TRINKET BOX The small hand painted wooden trinket or jewelry box is decorated with a patterned design of gold gilt set against a red background. It has gold gilt trim with small black accents. Unpainted wood is on the inside of the box. It measures 4 3/4" long by 3 1/2" wide by 1 13/16" high. It has paint wear and scratches on the red and gold gilt decorations. The top of the wooden box is attached to the bottom of the box with eye hooks. It does have some wood wear from use in the areas where the eye hooks are attached. But the lid's function is not affected by the wear. COASTERS The 3 coasters also have red backgrounds gold gilt designs and trim. Two of the coasters have small black accents and the third one has small blue accents. Each one has a different design in the middle. They have some wear from age and use. The coasters measure 4" in diameter. SMALL HOLDER The last item that is in this lot is small holder with a lid. It is burnt orange in color and has very tiny gold colored flowers on top of the lid. Hello Bidders! Fresh out of a local estate is this charming antique stenciled Strawberry tole tray. It is in quite nice condition for its age with no major flaws and wear that is consistent with its age. It measures approx. 16 1/2" by 12 1/2" There are some chips on the outside edge of the left side and the base. It is typical and an easy restoration if one wanted to. The main field is good and has only one little flaw to the top right; another easy fix. I would leave it as is because it does not detract from the whole tray. Please email with any questions. Made of metal painted black with hand painted gold colored flowers Gold paint around edge of tray and hand painted on the 1 3/4 in raised border of the tray. This vintage tray does have a few scratches and areas where the paint has been worn or chipped around the edge as one would expect to see on a tray with age. I have attempted to show detail of the tray condition in photos. However. It appears in great overall shape. Four pads have been placed on the back of the tray so it would not scratch table surface.
