1930s Roy Smeck "Vita Uke" Ukulele Flame Mahogany Harmony Vintage Antique Rare
Aloha! Up for auction is this classic 1930s ukulele. A Roy Smeck"Vita Uke" by Harmony of Chicago. The body is flame mahogany, the top spruce with Art Deco"seal" cutouts, and three layers of inlaid top binding in black and white. The fingerboard is rosewood with dot inlays and twelve nickel-silver frets. The bridge is original, and nut and saddle are both the original bone. The total length is 21-1/2" the body length 9-1/2" the scale length 14" The width at the widest point is 7-7/8" The tuners are original and work well; the strings are New Nylguts from Aquila. Despite their relatively small size. These Vita Ukes have a long scale and sound like concert-sized instruments, big and warm and round- just lovely. The action is low(3/32" at the twelfth fret) the fingerboard nice and wide(1-7/16" ... moreat the nut, 1-13/16" at the body) It plays wonderfully. CONDITION: The top had several shrinkage cracks typical to these instruments. Extending downward from the seal cutouts; all have been glued, cleated and/or splinted with spruce(see photos 1, 2, 7, 8) The lower back brace was reglued, several chips out of the bridge were repaired with ebony and the bridge was reglued(see photo 9) The original finish on the back and sides is in generally good condition. Except for minor dings and scratches and an area of checking in center of the back(see photos 3, 10; light area) The top finish is also good, also with dings and scratches, play wear around the fingerboard extension, and a little finish loss adjacent to the bridge. A Gorgeous Victorian Flame Mahogany Jewellery Box circa 1900 The box measures 28cm x 18cm x 11cm. It has been relined with period style paper and has been repolished. The cartouche and escutcheon are inlaid brass which enhances the wood. The box comes has a very small crack in the veneer on the right back corner but this is hardly noticeable. It has it's original stop hinges and lock although the keep is missing it's tooth. The original hessian material remains on the base of the box. This is a very nice box and would enhance any room. This set includes six MAHOGANY chairs. Two of them are arm chairs. The beautiful china cabinet measures 81" x 48 x 16 deep. The buffet measures 65" x 35 x 21" deep, the server measures 40" x 32 x 19 deep. The solid MAHOGANY table measures 61" x 40" without the leaf. There is one 12" leaf that is self storing under the table, and the table expands to accomodate 3- 4 more leaves if you want to have them made. Two of the chairs had been repaired before I purchased the set. There is normal wear and dings for a set this age, but overall the wood grain is very beautiful and it is a stunning set. This is a pair of matching mahogany twin beds that date from the 1930s or’40s. They came in with bad side rails and our cabinet shop refabricated ... morea new matching set of side rails that are identical to the originals. The beds themselves are really nice. With flame turned finials that are very delicate and fragile, rope or barley twist carved posts with rice carving on the base, and multi-turned bottom knobs. The headboards have a wonderful solid mahogany shield back, and the footboards have cross-stretchers that are spiral turned. The outside dimensions of the beds are 40 inches wide with the footboards 51 inches high at the finial and 32 inches at the cross-stretcher. The headboards are 59 inches high at the finial and 39 inches at the top of the shield. Inside dimensions, for mattress purposes, are 39 inches wide, and 75 inches long and the box spring sets on top of the rails. It’s a great-looking pair of beds that has been all re-sprayed in a dark mahogany stain finish, and are all set to go. American Empire Antique Wig Chest Dresser Crotch Flame Mahogany~Marble Top 1825
Here we have a very Rare Empire Dresser for your consideration. This is a very fine Wishbone Mirrored Dresser with side wig curio cabinets. These dressers have always been the Cadilac of Empire Dressers. But this one is one of the finest we have ever seen. The burled or Flame Mahogany is fantastic. The colors are just beautiful. We do not have the exact history. But the party we bought the dresser from, told us that this dresser was saved in Katrina from the Huricane in New Orleans. It was transported north and sold to raise money for the people who once owned it there. We bought it from the next party who purchased it. The dresser is of such fine quality, and has all original parts. The only thing it may need is some new screws in the back when the wig cabinets mount. At the moment it is all assembled and they were not needed. But when the ... moredresser comes to its new home, that is one addition we would suggest is new screws in the back area. The wood on every side is pristine on this piece. The only thing you would find is normal wear from a dresser of such a grand age. All that is needed is a nice polish and this piece is ready to set up and be displayed with pride. The dresser is 77" tall by 43" wide by 21" deep. The mirror attaches on each curio side with wooden screws and original knobs. The drawer fronts have the carving at the top and bottoms and the matched grain of the wood is outstanding. This piece could be by the famous cabinet maker Thomas Day. As even the sides of the dresser have fantastic matched graining. The hand made dove tails and brass locks, are all top notch and fine quality. The marble top inset is beautiful thick Italian Marble with nice grain and detail. There are no chips, nor cracks on the marble. It could use a polish from a marble professional. But the patina and wear only adds charactor to the piece. There is typical wear here and there to the original surface from every day use over the years. Has original solid wood side rails with scrolled brackets. There are some stress cracks running up the posts that are typical for age. There is some surface loss on one of the posts that I have shown in a closeup photo. Posts are Mahogany thick veneer surface. Top frame is mitered joint boards which are nailed to top of posts. Entire surface would benefit from a good oil and wax. Flame Mahogany Westminster Bracket Clock ( Relisted )
This clock was originally listed in April/ May but I never received payment therefore relisted due to time waster! This is a deceptively large clock in the" Regency" style. To the front feature it has a central cartouche displaying the" Prince of Wales" feathers and other boxwood inlays. At either side there are quarter columns and it sits on 4" Regency" brass ball feet. It has pierced arched frets to both sides of the clock. See pics) The dial is silver engraved which is covered by a lockable cast bezel. The quality German Westminster movement stikes on 5 coiled gongs and the clock is working and striking but is eractic and will need servicing! So sold as a non runner. This a 19th century antique mahogany sideboard with some solid mahogany. Some figured mahogany veneers and pine secondary. There are two drawers over what appears to be three doors but is actually two doors. The right hand drawer is a lined drawer for silver ware and the bottom section can be totally locked. Drawers are hand dovetailed and the bottoms of the drawers are chamfered. The columns are like double ended C scrolls and the feet are simple.typical mid 1800's Empire Revival piece. Height to top = 40 1/2" Width = 57" Depth at deepest = 24" The lock sets are original. They are the"same" lockset in that they are both either left handed or right handed as the key needs to be reversed to work each lock. They lock easily. The key has been replaced. The whole clock has an amazing design with many top London features although not signed is definately of London origin. CIRCA- 1840. Case The clock has a superb bell top design with brass handle to top standing elegantly on 4 brass ball feet The case benefits from glass sides with a circular glass section above them with a glazed hinged front door with brass fretted and red silk spandrels to the top corners. The door has its original working lock and key. The case also benefits from a hinged glazed back door protecting the movement through which the brass backplate can be seen working. This also has its original working lock and key and has glass ... morespandrels to corners. The case is in excellent original condition for age all original with no sign of woodworm past or present with a perfect patina and colour to the figured mahogany and with its original fine finish to it.
