Along the Nile in the lower right quadrant show the figure of Prester John seated in his throne where his mythical Kingdom was believed to be located. The map was drawn in classic Ptolemaic conical projection within a trapezoidal frame. Ancient parallels and climates are displayed outside the east and west borders. Cartographic features identified throughout the map include. Cities, major towns, rivers, seas, and mountains. This map came from an atlas edited by Michael Servetus that were printed from the woodblocks made by Laurent Fries(c.1490- c.1532) Michael Servetus was a physician and theologian who due to his unorthodox teachings was ... morecondemned by Prodestants and Roman Catholics. And 40E to 100W longitude) Australia is labelled Australien oder[or] Neu Holland; while India is called Hindostan[Hindustan] Its common name to Europeans in the 17th through 19th centuries. Includes lengthy sections on each state and its history, and then histories of the major countries of the world. Particularly profusely illustrated with images of the animals inhabiting particular regions. All text is present, as later editions were often split into two volumes. Complete in one volume. 493 pages. Book is in poor condition. While pages are all present, the green cloth has been removed from the front cover and spine, and is present, but peeling on the rear. Somehow, book is still holding together; while hinges are tender, all is attached. Title page and table of contents are detached. Last forty pages have a waterstain extending halfway down the page. This book is a first edition by Sidney Breese. the late justice of the Supreme court of Illinois" the book is in very good condition with all the pages and text. There are 422 pages and the text has no foxing cuts tears pencil marks or stains. Almost like new inside. The covers are well attached and in good working condition, 3/4 leather covers. The hinges have a small crack about 1/2" long on front lower, the spine is complete with normal scuffs and dings as can be expected for being 127 years old. I'm not sure why this grouping of items is being sold together except that i found them all in the same box at an estate so you get it all just as i found it! Hopefully the pics will tell you enough to know what you're looking at. 1) is a nice old French map that is 35" x 30" and has fabric backing 2) is an old map that looks kinda nautical. It's 42" x 26' and is on heavy paper 3) is a Plan de Paris which has a pull out map inside 4) is a one sheet about some steamer lines and 5) is an old poster that is on the most delicate paper ever and is not in perfect shape by any means so it all makes some sense together. Right? Kinda french, kinda map related? hey I'm just digging through mostly dead people's junk and filth to find you, the eager public, stuff to buy on ebay. You're welcome!

Two original antique maps of the English County of Suffolk. Both were drawn and engraved by Joshua Archer- no date. At this time base maps dating from the 1830's were being regularly re-issued with updated overlays of railway development- one map shows no railway construction and probably dates from the 1840's.The second map also has no date but shows rail lines into Droitwich and Dudley and probably dates from the 1850's. NOT REPRODUCTIONS! This pair of scarce antique maps. Titled" Topographical Map of Warren Co. New Jersey" and" Englewood. Bergen Co. New Jersey. were made in the year 1872, just seven years after the Civil War ended. These maps, printed back-to-back with original hand coloring, are a great piece of history, and also very nice items for display. The map of Warren County ... moreis quite large. Two feet high by 15 inches wide, and was drawn on a scale of 2 miles to the inch. It shows details of cities, towns and villages; railroad stations and post offices; schools and churches; lakes, ponds, rivers, streams, etc. And this map is crisscrossed with various railroad lines. see scans below] This is a very detailed map. As well as being nicely colored- unfortunately, the low-resolution scans cause the colors to be a bit"off" and the details to be a bit blurred. This is the legendary Breeches Bible: translated in Genesis 3:7 as"and they sowed figge-tree leaves together. And made themselves breeches. This less precise translation was glossed in the margin with a more accurate, albeit longer, translation. The accepted meaning is"coverings" the KJV has"aprons" Within. The Bible has remained in amazing shape; minimal instances of soiling and browning throughout but nothing major. And a few leaves within have some small stains, but the majority of the text is great for its age, as shown, well kept. Unmarked. Marbled endpapers. The Bible is printed in Latin font in English. Two columns with frequent notes and marginal commentary, as well as great woodcuts, maps and more throughout. The Bible is complete. With both the O ld and New Testament titles present. Appended at the rear is a Whole Book of Psalms. Lacking the title but with a co loph on from 1743. Ed inburgh: Printed by Lumisden& Rob inson. With a few leaves detached at the end very cleanly. These images from the famous Mercator Map book- Which was really the first world atlas. In fact. Mercator invented the term"atlas" to describe a collection of maps. His maps and globes where the first mass produced globes and maps the world generally saw. Ok- now the history- Mercator- whose full name was Gerardus Mercator or more properly the mouthful- Gerard de Kremer- was born a Flemish kid in the town of Rupelmonde. This is in 1512 so a bit back in history. He taught mathematics. Did brass plate engraving, wrote books including one on italic font engraving ... morefor maps. And make of course. Maps(fell into it by accident) Like most folks back then doing anything useful or creative. He was in trouble with the powers that be, including the church and moved locations and jobs several times to stay ahead of potential or probable problems from offended church or other groups. Few of his mass produced globes exist today. But their design has become ever since the world standard on how to make and display globes. His son continued to make globes and maps even after his dad's death. Rumold Mercator) This further ensured the enduring name of his methods of map making and cartography and globe making. This book is complete, nothing missing, ie. pages, maps, plates, charts etc. It has all of its pages. The edges of the book are a little frayed. The book is a little yellowed. All the pages are intact. There is no handwritting in the book. The book is in very good condition. It has minor wear due the its age and/or use. Storage.
