wood spirit carving native american indian art knot OOAK Josh Carte no reserve
Old Chief" original art by Joshua S. Carte. This fella' is carved from a piece of cottonwood bark. He is 13" tall x 3" wide at widest point x 2 3/4" thick. Many hours were put into this spirit while bringing him to life. He is finished with washes created from acrylic paints. Washes provide subtle colors to the carving. But still allow for the natural grain to show through. After all the carving and painting is finished, a coat of spray urethane is applied. Carved wood Totem like carving signed wall plaque. This piece appears to be Northwest Coast. First Nations possibly from the Bella Coola Community or the Kwagiulth Nation. The letters and/or symbols carved on the backside lead me to believe the piece is rather old. The piece has two bird figures at the top, the human form, and the animal is believed to be a bear. Lac du Flambeau Wooden Indian Mug - Indian Wood Carving - Primitive Unusual
Up for consideration is this vintage Wooden Mug from Lad Du Flambeau Wis. Not sure of the age. But I know it is an older piece. Please view all pictures. It stands approximately 5 3/4 inches tall and has a picture of an Indian Chief on one side. Seems to be made out of wood and has a rustic"tree" like stub for the bottom of the mug. Could be a carved piece. It does have Lac du Flambeau under the Indian head. It does have a hole in the bottom of the mug. Not sure if that was originally there and maybe this was a pencil holder as this is what my parents used it for. There are some pencil/ pen marks on the bottom of the mug however but those may be able to be cleaned. Although I try to describe all items accurately. This is a great old wood carving of sleepy eye the indian who was used for advertising flour. this wood carving is about 35" talland about 24" wide and about 2" thick. the indian is all raised and looks liek it was made with a chisel and in many places it is raised above the background 1" can't tell you much more about it other than it is old barn fresh came from a old collector of bottles and has been stored away along time. any questions just ask. it is a really nice one.

The totem pole stands 12 3/4" high and it's wing span is 9 1/2" wide and it's base is 2 3/4" in diameter All hand painted and carved. This piece is painted with black. Blue, and orange, white, and red. There are no markings to this piece but it was probably made in the 1940s. Condition is great with only a minor crack in the base and a small part of the tip of the raven or eagles nose is broken off. A nice addition to your collection. Before the arrival of the Spaniards and other Europeans. The Jicarilla Apache people lived a nomadic existence, roaming across northeastern New Mexico, southern Colorado, and the panhandles of Oklahoma and Texas. Offering as is preowned in good condition a Spectacular OOAK Vintage Wood Head Bust Carving Amazon Indian. He is almost life like and I feel he is just gorgeous! I dont know what type of wood was used but must be indigenous Amazonian flora and it has a few worm holes. See pics. Ive had the bust for over a decade and no new holes have occurred and the original owner claimed they were there when she was presented the bust back in the 70's from a friend who worked or traveled in the northern part of the Amazon. She claimed to recall Venezuela but wasnt positive. There are several indigenous tribes in the Amazon but Im not sure which one this bust depicts.it could be a tribe near the Orinoco River in Venezuela or Guyana such as the Guahibo. Yanonami or Warao. There is a large bust carving found in Canaima National Park that faces La Gran ... moreSabana where these tribes are located or near. That large bust looks similar to this wood carving of the Yanonami Tribe although they are not known to be carvers and are still quite primitive. The Guahibo is known for carving. The wood is very beautiful and I had kept it well cared for over the years. Now this fierce warrior needs a new home with other fabulous South American art collections. He's about 9 1/2"H x 7"L x 6"W and weighs approx 2 lbs. and is one of a kind!

MORE PHOTOS BELOW You are bidding on a large carved cedar wood Potlatch bowl with a Sea Otter shape. Made by the Kwakiutl carver Kwunkwa-dzi on the North West Coast of US or Canada. It measures approx. 29 inches long. 11 inches wide, and approx. 11 1/2 inches tall. Made out of one Cedar block of wood. Expertly carved and paint decorated. It is signed on the bottom by the artist, Kwunkwa-dzi. Kwunkwa-dzi was a member of the Lelooska family of the Kwakiutl tribe. Shona-Hah is the mother of Lelooska, Kwunkwa-dzi, Patty Fawn, and Tsungani(another well known carver) She was born in a black walnut log cabin in Oklahoma's old Cherokee Nation. There, she was given the name Shona-Hah, gray dove" Her Kwakiutl name, Tl'alilhilugwa, bestowed in 1968, means"whale rising" See photo. Potlatch has been practiced for thousands of years ... moreby some indigenous peoples on the Pacific North West. A potlatch ceremony usually celebrates a significant event in a family such as a birth. Rite of passage, wedding, funeral or the honoring of the dead. The orca to the left, the sea monster on the bottom right with the salmon arcing through the middle. The eyes are shells. 23" by 15" ALFRED CROCKER Alfred was born in 1950 and is from Chemainus BC. But the back is stamped"Made by American Indians" These come from a collector. Beautifully preserved and in a box since 1970. Just opened the box with the original old newspaper from May 1970. This is a Hopi Indian Native American hand carved Yellow Kachina Doll- the Wood Carrier. All groups of Pueblo people made Katsina dolls(also known as Kachina dolls) But those of the Hopi are most famous. Known as tihu in the Hopi language, the Kachina dolls were not playthings like dolls in the European tradition. Rather, they were religious objects with an educational and instructional purpose. Carved from the root of the cottonwood tree. Kachina dolls were traditionally made by men and usually given to girls, especially those soon ready to marry. Katsinas were personifications of invisible spirits, not gods as much as ancestors who aided the Hopi, especially in their never-ending need for rain. The dolls contain part of the katsinas’ power. INDIAN BRAVE, 23" WOOD CARVING, W/BASKET & FEATHERS "ORIGINAL FOLK ART" VINTAGE!
This listing is for an excellent FOLK-ART PIECE that will make an EXCELLENT PIECE OF DECOR! Vintage. 1960's Folk-art, Chainsaw-Carved Native American Brave. This Piece is 23" Tall and weighs nearly 7lbs; The Brave is approx. 5" wide and 14" around the middle. The Piece is carved Red Cedar and appears to be stained with a reddish wash. The Hair on the Brave is"Horse Hair. it is glued on the top; the Brave wears a Natural Colored Leather Piece that Covers the Front& Back, and Natural Colored Leather Moccasins cover the"Feet" but not the bottom of the Feet. The Leather Flaps are attached to a Leather Piece that is glued and tied around the Brave's Waist and fitted through. The Moccasins are Fitted& Glued, and the Leather is a bit dirty, which adds to the overall Vintage look to this piece. It is ... morea nice, solid piece and Well-Detailed. The Natural Aspect of the Wood adds to the Beautiful Detail. The Well-Detailed Hands hold Turkey Feathers and there is another Feather dried to simulate an"Eagle" feather; the Hands have excellent detail as do the Facial Features. Including the Eyes, Nose, Mouth and Ears. The Cheekbones are well-captured, as well. A Red Headband that is covered with a Beaded Headband-are glued and tied around the Brave's Head. The Beads are small Indian Beads, and All pieces are Original to the Piece. A Faux Native 2-Piece"Woven Basket" also comes with this Stunning Piece. The Basket is a bit crooked and there are a few areas of the top piece that is coming loose. The Basket is Tan w/light colors of Green, Orange, Brown, Black and Red Woven throughout the Top and Side of the Basket. The Basket is 3" high, 2 1/2" deep and 18 1/2" around. There is a small piece on the top that allows one to pull off the top piece. This Native Brave stands well on his own. And will make wonderful addition to one's decor.
