SUKHOTHAI Green-yellow base coloured Celadon glazed, lustre spot and beak decorated, rustic" TUKATA SIA KABAN, BIRD, CHICK FIGURE.SUCH FIGURES WERE A SYMBOL AND"REQUEST" FOR FERTILITY( RAIN) AND FAMILY HARMONY This is made from thick hand formed clay, slightly rustic and"crude" in form.the figure obviously is an interesting reference example. This was bought at source in the Far East in the mid 2000's, and is one of the more unusual forms that I have owned. In my opinion a LARGE THAI 15thc SAWANKHOLAK SI SATCHANALAI. SUKHOTHAI, TUKATA SIA KABAN, MOTHER AND YOUNG BOY CHILD( KU MAN TONG) AND ROOSTER, ANCESTOR FIGURE. SUCH FIGURES WERE FAMILY SHRINE ITEMS, A SYMBOL AND"REQUEST" FOR FERTILITY( RAIN) AND FAMILY HARMONY. This figure is a more unusual and rarer example, it shows significant use as a genuine family shrine, with applied layers of"waxed" blessed scented oils to the shoulders, the face too has been over painted. There are signs of various pigments, most notably red( often associated with Thai blessings and family alter/ shrine offerings. It is also a large example, simple and rustic in form showing decades of use and wear. This was bought at source in the Far East in the mid 2000's, and is the larger one that I have owned.
