Antique Tibetan India Chinese? Copper Brass Tin Ewer Pitcher Dragon Handle
I purchased this ewer at an estate sale where there were many different items from different parts of the world. I do not know where it was from. I thought it was probably Islamic until I took a better look at it and saw what looks to me like a dragon head on the handle and figures in the medallions that look like they are meditating and finial that looks like a flame. My best guess after doing a bit of research would be that it is from Tibet or Northern India but that is only a guess. If anyone knows where it is from. I would be glad to hear from them. I do not know how old this ewer is. I think that it is probably old enough to be considered vintage and that it might be antique. It has a nice patina that you can see in my photos. I believe that it is hand made. It appears to be mostly made of copper. I would guess that the that the white ... moremetal parts are copper with a tin plating. The handle appears to be cast. The two decorative medallions look like they are probably cast out of a yellowish metal that might be brass. The designs on the medallions are very similar but I do see little differences in the designs that make me wonder if they really are cast. I think that the handle might also be brass. To the top of the finial on the lid. It measures about 12 inches high. It weighs close to 1 pound 5.9 ounces. The condition is much like you see it in my photos. It is generally in excellent condition. There is some oxidation on the inside of the lid and the ewer and the bottom of the ewer. There is tarnish or patina that you can see in the photos. There are irregularities that one might expect from hand made pieces. There is nothing that looks to me like damage. I have not tried putting a liquid in it. Otherwise. It is fine and as shown. My photos should give you a good idea of its general condition. I guarantee this ewer to be as described and as represented by my photos. The photos are part of the description. Antique Buddhist-Tibetan-Devotional -Copper Ewer-
~ ANTIQUE TIBETAN EWER~ SUPERB LARGE ORNATE HAND HAMMERED COPPER REPOUSSE BUDDHIST DEVOTIONAL EWER ~ VESSEL This is a really remarkable. And quite unique example of Tibetan art: a beautifully detailed, very fine hand hammered& engraved ~ Tibetan repousse copper and silvered metal ewer ~ vessel featuring a wonderful spout depicting a bird in flight with outstretched wings, loads of repousse demons on the body of the ewer, and a flaming dragon handle. The handle has detached at the base from the body, but is still plenty sturdy. A masterly crafted piece with deep chase work and engraving. A very rare piece of Tibetan culture in very good antique condition. ~~ 12"~~)
SMALL SILVERED TIBETAN EWER
This little ewer is about 6.6" high and 5.5" at its widest. It was originally silver plated or had a thin silver coating but this is now worn in many places- especially on one side- to show the metal or alloy underneath which has a pale yellowish colour. The shaped plaques on each side seem to be cast and applied to the surface of the ewer but most of the rest of the decoration seems to be hand beaten and incised. A small piece of coral is set into the top of the spout. The lid is missing as is the chain that should have secured it to the top of the animal on the handle but overall it is in good condition. I think it probably dates from c. 1900. Please see the books. Auction catalogues and antiques that we have listed.

Large Ceremonial Tibetan Libation Ewer Brass Monastery Snake Handle Tribal Jug
Large Ceremonial Tibetan Libation Ewer Brass Monastery Snake Handle Tribal Jug This libation jug comes from a set of ritual vessels called Serkyem in Tibetan(transliterated Tibetan: gSer skyems) Which were used to make offerings to Buddhist deities. The gilt-copper mounts in the form of a dragon-shaped handle and makara(mythical water creature) spout are also Nepalese in style. The jug may have been made in Nepal or by a Nepalese craftsman in Tibet for a Tibetan patron. This vessel was most likely filled with wine during a libation ceremony to trick the evil spirits. Neither the monks of an established church or the holier Llamas of the other sects may drink any spirituous liquor. However they would offer it as libations to the devil to get him drunk. A very early example from one of the earlier tribes that made up early tibet. Symbolism ... moreof the chief with floral design on wood and a very detaled snake handle.
