Vtg Japanese Hand Painted Lacquer Musical Jewellery Box Mother Of Pearl Inlay Welcome to my listing for this lovely Japanese Jewelery box. Hand painted with the classic Mount Fuji scene. The whole box is lacquered and the lid features a mother of pearl inlaid border. Inside of the box features a lovely pair of dancing ballerinas who spin around to what sounds like a lovely Japanese tune. I cant identify it. The box inner is lined with a lovely pink fabric which is in lovely, bright condition. The multiple mirror effect is a beautiful touch and in excellent condition. Each of the ballerina's look like they may have been glued back into place at some point. They seem sturdy now, please see pics. Both ballerinas spin and the music plays well when the box is opened. All works as it should. There is a little wear to the lid and part of the ... morepaintwork. On the whole, this is in Excellent condition. The box comes with its original key. It is made in Japan, Patent, and there is a small impression on the bottom of the tray on the left corner that looks similar to a flower. This beautiful maki-e lacquer sake teapot offers a very sophisticated way to drink sake. The form mirrors the tetsubin-style of iron‘teapot’ used for hot sake. The maki-e laquerwork is very fine. Japanese Lacquer Tray – Cranes and Pine – Gold Makie and Kin-Nashiji
This Japanese dinner tray(Zen’ is of very high-quality lacquer ware. The top features a masterfully-executed gold makie design of cranes and a pine tree. An auspicious theme in Japan. The underside features a kin-nashiji. Or gold powder finish. This tray would have been made by a specialist craftsperson for a high-class customer. While I can’t guarantee the age. The Japanese antiques dealer I purchased it from dated this tray to about the 1880s. Apologies that the photos do not do this piece justice– it’s hard to get non-reflective photos on such high-gloss lacquer. And my camera just doesn’t capture the richness and detail of the finish. Antique Japanese Page Turner Lacquer & Carved Wood
Antique Japanese page turner. Probably Meiji period. It is carved wood on one side and black lacquer on the other. It has a shaped handle with two holes through which a cord would have been threaded. The carved side has a charming scene depicting a man holding aloft what looks like a musical instrument or it could be a fan. Hovering above him is a bat so he may trying to ward this off. The reverse side features flowers. A straw roofed building by water and a prunus(I'm guessing) tree. It measures 14 ins/26 cms long. It is generally in good condition with a few surface marks. Antique Japanese Miniature Cabinet(c1900 or earlier Meiji Period) Antique Miniature Japanese Black Lacquer Cabinet with fabulous hand painted raised gold birds and flowers. See pictures 10 and 11) Inside the beautiful flower design continues. 3 draws that open and close easy, each of the draws have metal handles in keeping with the style of the cabinet. The top, sides and back has an Orange spot design. A few dings and a few chips to the top front of the cabinet, age crack to the right side door(centre) but looks in keeping with the age of the piece. Hinges work perfectly. Small bolt to the bottom left door and sliding Knob and bolt to the right door to the side of key hole- no Key. Left door closes and locks but right door remains open. Vintage Japanese lacquer postcard/photo album Nice album with maps of Japan and Korea to front cover. As well as Mount Fuji and embossed cherry blossom branches and peacocks. Inside there are 16 postcards of Tokyo and area from the 1950s(see my photos) Please note this book weighs over 2kg which makes it fairly expensive to post both in UK and abroad. This is a lovely Japanese Lacquered Plaque Red lacquer on wood with a young Japanese girl in traditional Kimono made out of etched Mother of Pearl and other material. nice Iris painted in gold and black in background Girl or Maiko is carrying a tray with paper in it for writing. her kimono robe is decorated in nice geometric and organic designs. She has pretty flowers in her hair. 12' x 8" no damage or missing pieces. But one scratch on right side that black paint will cover right up.
