This stunning Japanese Takaoka bronze incense burner. Or koro, is made by Omori Takashi. The koro features a seated samurai with katana on the lid. And the legs of the koro are shaped like demon heads. Omori’s seal is on the koro bowl and the box lid. And the piece comes with a certificate of authenticity. Japanese Antique Bronze Hibachi with Birds and Dogs Motif
This bronze hibachi is large enough to use as just a hand-warmer. Or to head a small teapot or sake choshin. One side features two dogs and tree. While the other has birds in a tree. The hibachi is in good used condition. There are some pin-holes near the base of the metal which I’ve tried to capture in the close-up photo. This should not present problems for use. As you would usually line the bottom before adding ash and charcoal– an old upturned dinner plate works well for this task. My Stepfather saw it and wanted it, but I told him I wanted to keep it then. He offered me $100.00 and I sold it. Well I just bought it back for $100.00 from my mother. It was said that Charles liked the 1896 Worlds Fair Japanese Exhibit so much that he bought the whole exhibit. Grandmas house was a 3 story, 16 bedroom home, stuffed with antiques. In the 1970's her house full of treasures was appraised at 36 million. She died in 1989 and most items went to auction. Her 3 sons split up the rest. Pair of Japanese Solid Bronze Incense Burners c.1890- 1910 These burners come in good condition with only one loose arm to one. Which could be easily remedied. These date to not after 1900 and depict birds as arms and peacock type motifs to body. Very detailed from head to foot(see photos) There is a faint Japanese makers mark to base(see photo) which suggests that this may be from the late meiji period. There are some old ink character/ number marks just visible on the underside. It is in very good condition and measures approximately 75mm in diameter and stands 55mm in height.
