And I have not seen another one like this. The Figure is finely carved with a nice lotus carved base. There is a slot in the back side like it may have had something sticking out of the back as some point. The figure shows a dark early patina throughout and I am sure would conservatively date to the 19th century, if not earlier. The Figure has some paint loss, revealing a green paint underneath and is missing the hands. The figure is otherwise in good original condition. The figure is shown in fine detail with deep-set eyes, zoomorphic, bird-like appearance and veiled headdress. This piece dates to the Mehrgarh periods IV- VI. Approximately 3500-2800 B.C. It is now believed that the pottery of Mehrgarh supercedes that of Mesopotamia in being the earliest known polychrome ceramics produced by Humans. Exciting new evidence from Mehrgarh during this period has come to light recently, showing us that these people had knowledge of dentistry! I believe the two figures may be very early examples, they both have a beautiful old patina. Like no other I have seen. The Figure shows good and legitimate early age throughout. The Figure has very intricately carved details throughout including a superbly carved and detailed face. I was told the figure would conservatively date to the 18th century period, and that there is a good chance it could even be an earlier Ming Dynasty piece. The figure is very heavy, far heavier than any other figure like this I have handled which I am also told is an indication of an earlier made example weighting a substantial 7.3kgs, or right around 16 pounds by itself not including the wood fitted base. The Figure has a beautiful dark patina throughout and has not been over cleaned. The Figure is in very fine original condition with no missing pieces, repairs, or damage of any kind. The Figure is an amazing display piece measuring 5 3/4 inches square at the base, and stands 14 inches tall by itself, and 14 3/4 inches tall including the wood base. Check out my! As shown and described. Please note left front of foot is missing. This is a wood carving with colors as shown. It is 7 1/2 inches high and 3 1/2 inches at the base. In the front there is a wood crack. He is holding 2 rods in his right hand one of which is split making it appear to be 3 rods. In his left hand is what appears to me to be bamboo which is solidly carved as part of the piece. I don't know much about polychrome. Gold gilt etc so please judge yourself from the photos.
