And it was struck on a very thick planchet(~ 3 mm) It appears to be bronze, the known composition for this medal. One side features images of the royal couple. The other side has a somewhat detailed map of Canada. The date 1939, and the royal crest. This token was issued to commemorate the coronation of Queen Victoria on June 28. 1838. The medallion shows the head of a young queen Victoria on the obverse with the legend"Victoria Queen of Great Britain" surrounding it. The reverse shows a seated Queen Victoria with a scepter in one hand and Britannia standing behind her with a shield in one hand and crowning her with the other. The reverse has the legend"Born May 24 1819. Ascended the Throne June 20 1837. Crowned June 28 1838" all surrounding the design. The piece has a brassy color and shows quite a bit of soiling ... moreand stains as well as some pitting to the surface. Here is a very nice Austrian Medal commemorating the victory over Napoleon Bonaparte in 1814. The medal was struck by Stuckhart. And features portraits of Karl Philipp, Prince of Schwarzenberg and Klemens Metternich, Austrian diplomat. Both men were decisive, one as a general, and one as a statesman, and were responsible for helping defeat the French army at Waterloo and negotiating the end of hostilities. This medal is 44mm in diameter and is either silver or guilt silver.
