Beautiful Lot Of Two Italian Oblong Miraculous Medal And St. Benedict Medal
A very nice pairing here. These two medals are detailed and lovely. The St. Benedict medal has the words"St. Benedict" on the side on the front. And an assortment of letters on the back(the only one I am sure of the meaning of is Pax near the top, for Peace) The Miraculous Medal has the classic M-and-Cross of a miraculous medal. As well as the Sacred Heart of Jesus near the bottom on the back, and the word"Italy" printed on it. Both are quite sturdy and moderately heavy-I would guess them to be made of steel. The oblong medal is around an inch and a half. Or 4CM, from top to bottom, and weighs 5 grams. The Saint Benedict medal is an inch/2.5 CM from bale to base, and weighs 2.5 grams. An excellent silvered brass medal of St Benoit(Benedict) Signed by famous 20th century medallist Fernand Py. This is not the modernist design of some of Py's St Benedict medals, but a more traditional head and shoulders version of the Saint. It is possibly silver. But there are no marks on it, so it is either silver on brass or silver with some gilding, as there are gold-coloured highlights which can be seen on the photos. On the obverse of the medal is a hooded Saint Benedict holding a staff with a shield on the other side, which features his cross, two fleurs de lys and St Benedict's staff. Around the portrait are the words S. Benedictus Monachorum Patriacha, St Benedict, father of the monks) with PAX at the bottom of the medal, and the signature"F Py" to the left. For sale is a small St. Benedict medal. It measures approximately 3/4" long including the ring at the top. It is made of a very lightweight metal. Aluminum or maybe tin. On one side is St. Benedict with the words Crux S.P. Benedict. On the other is a cross with letters around the edges, at the apexes of the cross and on the cross itself.
