The front of this lovely small-to-mid-sized lightweight silvertone aluminum medal bears the image of St. Pope Cornelius- along with an identifying inscription. The reverse bears a cross and floral spray. It measures 3/4 inch across(about the size of a US nickel. It is in very nice condition. Pope Saint Cornelius was pope from March. 251 to June 253. He was elected pope during the lull in the persecution of the Roman Emperor Decius. His election was opposed by Novatian, who maintained the view that not even the bishops could grant remission for grave sins like murder, adultery, and apostasy, but that these could only be remitted at the Last Judgment; Cornelius on the contrary believed that bishops could grant remission for these grave sins. This is an old Pope St. Pius X medal. I believe it to be from the actual time of Pius X's pontificate. As the medal does not style him as"Blessed" or"Saint" Pius X. The medal has nice detailing. Image of Mary Immaculate on the reverse-side. Latin text on both sides. Overall, the medal is in good condition for its age in my opinion; top-loop is bent slightly, but this will not effect usability. The medal measures approximately 3/4 of an inch in diameter.

For your consideration is a 19th Century ADVOCATES OF ST PETER(1878-1909) Papal Member Badge Medal From Pope LEO XIII- Once a badge medal. It has been made into a pendant set on a string of old Italian Milk Glass beads. BLUE& WHITE ENAMEL IS FLAWLESS NECKLACE LENGTH IS 16" PENDANT MEASURES 2.75" x 1.75" The Advocates of Saint Peter(Italian: Avvocati di San Pietro. French: Avocats de Saint-Pierre) were a body of jurists, whose stated main object was the defense of the Holy See in its rights and privileges, both in the spiritual and temporal order. They constituted a society whose statutes were confirmed approbatio within a July 5 brief of Leo XIII during 1878. It bound its members to refute calumnies of enemies of the Church. Whether derived from distortions of history, jurisprudence, or dogma, but above all were they to ... moredevote their legal knowledge to a defense of the Church's rights before civil tribunals. The society was formed in 1877, on the occasion of the Golden Episcopal Jubilee of Pope Pius IX, and the Advocate Count Cajetan Agnelli dei Malherbi, of Rome, became its first president. The ordinary members were jurists, but the society also enrolled as honorary members distinguished ecclesiastics or laymen who have made it a practice to defend Church interests along the lines of this organization.
