This is a very nice ca. 1720(most likely cast at his beatification or canonisation in 1716) bronze medal depicting St. John Francis Regis the founder of the Confraternity of The Blessed Sacrement. Another famous Jesuit saint of the late middle ages. This medal is an original of the time with a nice almost black patina to the bronze and despite the age the figures still in high relief and defined on the other side is'Regina. The Mother and Child maybe queen of Heaven. With Roma underneath. St. FRAN can be made out on the front. It depicts the saint as an old man with cape and staff and the beard he was known for. A small hole in the medal unfortunately and the bale is kaput but this is a very old thing. measures 1 1/8 inch long x 1/2 wide or 28 mm long x 13mm a nice size Please Note: I am selling a large collection of religious medals ... moreof all ages in the coming weeks.
