VERY FINE FRENCH EMPIRE ORMOLU MOUNTED MAHOGANY PIER TABLE Circa 1815 Item# 409PLI13Q This is an exceptional and nearly untouched work from the French Empire period. The only change in two hundred years being the replaced marble top and removal of the mirrored back. It retains a wonderful early mellowed surface, the match booked mahogany veneers now a warm cognac hue from years in the sun. The drawer and columns retain their original gilt bronze embellishments and hardware, these of utmost quality and precision- note the very fine chasing and filing of details and quality of the surfaces. The carcass is oak beneath the mahogany veneers, the structure joined almost entirely with dovetailed corners and braces. This is an exceptional find for anyone passionate about works of the French Empire period. It is styled after the Empire period This is a 16 sided(hexadecagon) table mounted on a graduated. Octagonal pedestal. The table top is solid cherry wood. The top has a 16 piece Bird’s-eye Maple apron that is 2 ¾ inches in depth. The pedestal is mounted on a 4 sided. Serpentine curved platform The pedestal. Platform and scrolled feet are covered with a flame mahogany veneer with a rich surface patina. The table was at some time. Probably in the 1950’s, cut down to coffee table height. Measurements: 18 inches high 34 inches wide 18 1/4 inches deep This piece would make an excellent coffee table. FRENCH EMPIRE ORMOLU AND MAHOGANY ANTIQUE MARBLE TOP PIER TABLE Circa second quarter of the 19th Century Item# 411LNK15A Dressed in most vibrant flamed mahogany veneers. This very fine French Empire Marble Top Pier Table circulates from the second quarter of the 19th Century, probably just post Napoleon c. 1830. Exquisitely embellished, the table boasts a large selection of entirely original and exceptionally well cast gilt bronze mounts. The drawer features a central mask with outward flowing anthemion flanked by pairs of winged griffins with no pull hardware- instead, the drawer is opened with carved handhold wells beneath the frame. The drawer is hand dovetailed along the front and back. The curled tapering pillars are bold without entirely dominating the form. These with intricate complimenting mounts along the knee and ankle following ... morein the spirit of the anthemion introduced with the drawer. They terminate in some of the most handsomely carved Lion paws, these very finely shaped with red oxide pigment beneath gilding with wear revealing either walnut or beech secondary woods beneath many layers of old wax. They are stunning and absolutely define the piece. Beneath the paws, a flat shelf is veneered with crotch-mahogany and the whole structure rests over turned front feet and squared back feet(these are possibly later additions) An old label beneath the underside of the top is yellowed and missing most of it's text. A highly refined object. This is a piece that sets the stage for a home, particularly when positioned prominently in the entryway or foyer where it can be seen clearly from all angles. Retaining a deep and vibrant red, it has clearly been protected from sun exposure and well cared for through it's long years. antique empire oval mahogany library table great grain
this is a gorgeous antique empire mahogany oval library table. Unfortunately you can't tell it from my pictures. they seem to worse than usual for me. at any rate, the light in the room is not good so i had a terrible time getting the camera to focus and then they were either too light or too dark. the bottom line is that the table is much much nicer in person. it is oval as you see, 46 inches long, 32 wide, and a bit less than 30 tall with casters. it has one drawer that is hard to see when closed, the front being contoured to match the contoured skirt. it is a great table and rolls easily on the casters. it has a sweet pedestal and the empire scroll feet. the feet of course are veneer, the rest of the piece is solid mahogany i believe. i will check it again to make sure and if otherwise i will add that to the listing when i get back ... moreupstairs to take a peek at it again. i bought it about 2 years ago and stuck it upstairs and forgot i had it. someone came by the house and had to sell it so they said, but not too bad for what i had to pay. they were not easy to deal with. the grain is just outstanding, however the pictures do not do it justice either. it has a couple of little dents that are not worth mentioning, one next to the drawer which can be seen in the pictures and maybe another little ding or two but maybe not. any tiny impertections do not distract from its beauty or function. it is as solid as it can be and does not wiggle, wobble, or have any loose pieces, the veneer is great and overall the table is in outstanding antique condition. it can be picked up at my home and shipped. i can help arrange shipment if that would be helpful. also i will be glad to do layaway on it should anyone be interested in doing such. good luck.

We have been known to have 12 to 14 game tables at one time! However. In all the 1,000s of game tables we have had over the years, we have never had one in this style. It is unique with a solid ultra thin top, rounded corners, gorgeous grain, mahogany o-gee molded skirt, twin pillars coming down the base, big bun foot with castors and a flame mahogany stretcher. We just recently had a round period empire with this kind of medallion on the top, but not with this pillar. The cool thing about this table is that it is three pieces of furniture at once. You get a demi-lune of half table that can go behind the sofa or against the wall. Large, 19th century American Empire swivel top game table on a lyre(or harp) base, in lovely antique condition. The table is solid and sturdy. I believe the wood is cherry(I could be wrong) and the finish to be original. The table top is hinged so that it can be lifted, folded back and swiveled to make a full-square table, albeit with scalloped edges. Another way these tables are displayed is with the the top opened 90 degrees and the back half up against the wall; alternatively, the table can of course be left closed, also against the wall. When opened. It shows its true Empire period beauty, with a lovely sheen. The finish does show age but it is an antique and the patina could be respected ... moreas such. When closed. It could be argued that the part of the top that then shows could be refinished, although there are no cracks or gouges, just the age of its finish showing, more so than the fully opened top. It seems this table was generally displayed with the top closed, so the wood on the inside(which, when opened, would be the topside) has been protected. The table appears to be all original and with only the small imperfections to be expected in almost any genuine antique furniture. The most egregious flaw is the crack at the bottom of the harp base(see photo) The table measures: 28-1/2" high 37" to 37-1/2" wide(considering scallop edge) 18-3/8" to 18-5/8" considering scallop edge) closed) Approximately 37" square when opened.
