We are pleased to offer this very unusual. Old Asian hand carved lidded box or storage bin. This two piece box is carved and formed into a beautiful elephant. The elephant has a large trunk with nice details to the face, mouth and ears. The elephant is cut in half length wise. The top lifts off to reveal a box or storage bin. The bin is finished in an old lacquer. The elephant is colorful. He is painted a golden tan with hints of red and brown underneath. The ears and tongue are red. The paint has a sheen similar to lacquer as well. The underneath has a black finish. This box is quite unique in that it most of it was carved from a large, single piece of wood. There are no segmented or jointed pieces except for the curvature of the trunk and the ears. It is quite an extraordinary and beautiful piece! This is a Family Estate item. This fan was the great grandmothers. Acquired on one of their trips to Asia and beyond. She and her husband traveled extensively, and took world tours, as they were called in the Victorian era. They brought home wonderful pieces of art and handwork. They had a keen eye for objects of art and artisan pieces that just aren't produced with such time devoted care anymore. The fan has a tassel design at the end of the handle. This tassel is actually made up of 3 tiny fan pieces which are held in place at the end of a 3 ring chain. All carved from and as one continuing piece of wood remember. Astounding isn't ... moreit! The base of the chain has a hook carved into it for hanging the fan when not in use. The chain leads to the square decorated handle and the from the same piece of wood the artisan carved out each spay ending in a decorative point and fanning out with tiny edge curls. All done in a feather fashion giving a look of organized feminine accents. Just a wonderful and one of a kind piece of true art with function! The fan has had a later but still old shadow box framing with a carved wooden frame and a simple almost burlap background. Under glass. The back of the shadow box is closed by wood and paper framing tape. Frame measures 16" x 16" Fan measures 10" across x 12" in length. Vintage 1920s Lacquered Gilded Hand Carved Wood Panel From Old House In China
Vintage Chinese wood carved panel from old Chinese house. Circa 1920s. The carving features two opera singers riding two horses. They are carrying traditional Chinese weapons. On top and bottom of the carving are some plum blossom flowers. Opera singers had distinct costumes and I can verify that the figures in the carving are opera singers. The carving is carved from one piece of wood gilded and lacquered in red. It has lots of details and the subject matter is very unusual. I have never seen galloping horses in my wood carving collecting days. Old houses in China were demolished in great numbers in the 80s and the 90s to make way for modern developments. A lot of the traditional carvings were thrown out. There are not too many of these carvings left. Measurement: 16.5 cm x 17 cm The battery is there for size comparison only. Exquisite Antique Chinese Temple Wood Carved Tablet Very Rare Circa Early 1800s
A very rare antique Chinese wood carved temple ornament. Circa early 1800s. This unique carving is a temple tablet. The top of the tablet is the head of a bat with its wings and legs spread out. Below that is a pearl. Two dragon heads are carved underneath the bat on the sides. Chinese names of various deities carved in the middle panel. The base has some floral design. The top is carved out of one piece of wood. It is then inserted in the base. Bats and dragons are auspicious symbols in Chinese mythology. You can see the carving is handmade from the telltale sign on the back. But the front is just so fantastic I doubt you can find another one similar nowadays. This tablet would have been placed on an altar table in the temple. It is shaped like a ancestral tablet but it is not. I have had this for 60 years. Very Lovely Antique Chinese Wood Carving Hand Carved & Gilded Circa 1920s
Antique Chinese wood carved panel from old Chinese house. Circa 1920s. It probably was part of a window. The carving features two children playing in the garden. The one on the left is playing a Chinese game with a kicking object made of feather and paper. The carving is carved from one piece of wood gilded and lacquered in red. Old houses in China were demolished in great numbers in the 80s and the 90s to make way for modern developments. A lot of the traditional carvings were thrown out. There are not too many of these carvings left. Measurement: 12.5 cm x 26.5 cm The battery is there for size comparison only. It has nothing to do with the item. Stunningly very rare wood carved sculpture from China. Circa 1800s. The fantastic sculpture is carved from the precious Huanghuali wood. It is carved in the shape of a boy. He is lying down and holding a ball. The sculpture is so nicely carved you can see the wonderful expression on the boy's face and the lines of his flowing robe. Huanghuali wood is highly valued by the Chinese because the huali tree is small and grows very slowly. It is also a very hard wood and difficult to handle. Quality antique Chinese furnitures were mostly made of huanghuali wood. The sculpture has a split near the ball. It had been repaired. A bit of one of the foot is missing. Today, wayang golek is mainly associated with Sundanese culture of West Java. However the wooden wayang also known in Central Java as Wayang Menak. Originated from Kudus Central Java. Little is known for certain about the history of wayang golek. But scholars have speculated that it most likely originated in China and arrived in Java sometime in the 17th century. Some of the oldest traditions of wayang golek are from the north coast of Java in what is called the pasisir region. Antique Vintage Pair Chinese Carved Wood Tea Caddy Pewter Japanese Asian
A antique or vintage pair of carved wood asian tea caddies with pewter inserts. One of them is in good condition and just has a chip on the pagoda finial. The other one has a few more issues. The top has been broken at one time and was glued and it does not rest on the top like it should and there are many losses to the pagoda finial. One of them measures 8 1/2 inches tall and 5 3/4 inches wide. The other measures 7 1/2 inches tall and 5 3/4 inches wide. Estate chinese carved gilded wood panel
This description is based on my own personal limited research/knowledge and may have factual errors. Up for auction is this extraordinary carved wood panel. As seen from the photos this very well carved piece has extreme detail! It looks like a scene in Shanghai Opera. All the figures are engaging in a musical celebration-look closely most are playing an instrument or singing. The piece measures 15.5" x 9.75" across and 2" deep-it is in nice antique condition. Best estimate is early 20th century. Looks great on the wall. The piece is from a pet and smoke-free environment. Originally purchased from some old Chinese estate. Thanks.

Antique Japanese Page Turner Lacquer & Carved Wood
Antique Japanese page turner. Probably Meiji period. It is carved wood on one side and black lacquer on the other. It has a shaped handle with two holes through which a cord would have been threaded. The carved side has a charming scene depicting a man holding aloft what looks like a musical instrument or it could be a fan. Hovering above him is a bat so he may trying to ward this off. The reverse side features flowers. A straw roofed building by water and a prunus(I'm guessing) tree. It measures 14 ins/26 cms long. It is generally in good condition with a few surface marks. Wood Table-hand carved from Phillipines
Here is a great hand carved table from the Philippines. After helping my friend move his office to a new location. He just gave me this table. He told me it was in the family for awhile and that his uncle bought it for him for around $2,000 I believe. Not sure how much it is worth but as you can see in the pictures it's not mint. There is some scraps on top, and dry rotted crack on the picture. Legs are a little loose. I love the table but have to pay off my wedding instead so I'm getting rid of it. The artist also signed the bottom, but i can't make out his name. The silver tag says SPECTRUM PROMOTION ASSOCIATES-2028 Talt Ave. Pasay City-Cable: SPECTRUM Manila Philippines. Antique Vintage Chopsticks carved hand painted wood case SIGNED OLD Estate Item
This is a pair of signed antique or Vintage Asian Chop Sticks that came in a hand carved and hand painted signed wood case(maybe teak? The chopsticks are also wood I believe. The case is a gorgeous color wood with a pagoda and Crane hand painted on it and the artisans signature(see close-up picture. Letters within a cloud like shape) I bought them at an estate sale of an Asian collector who had many pieces well over 300 years old(lots of ivory and wood carvings) I don't know the age of these, but was told they have quite a bit of age. The wood or material that the chopsticks are made of make a glass type sound when tapped together so I think its an extremely hard wood. The pictures are taken in 2 different light areas for clarity.
