Extremely rare Chinese poster advertising American Texaco Petroleum In China. Circa 1918. The poster features a picture of a map showing Texaco products transported all over the globe. Two pictures of Texaco refineries underneath the globe. Texaco's various products featured in the centre. Descriptions for the four pictures listed on the bottom. It gives explanation for the production of Texaco Products. Locations of some of its refineries and its transportation to various ports in China. A Chinese calendar dated 1918 printed on the bottom of the poster with pictures of American Kerosene Products in the middle. The borders of the poster is designed with the Chinese symbols of longevity. The poster was printed in Hong Kong by the South China Morning Post. Texaco products were available widely in China in the early 1900s. The poster was ... moreprinted in stone printing or lithograph. The quality is excellent. There is a minor tear on the top right corner of the poster. There is almost no damage to other parts of the poster. The colour is great and as perfect as it was just printed 95 years old. The metal rods and the cloth loop are intact. There is a South China Morning Post identification printed in English and Chinese on the bottom of the poster. These posters were given away as decorations for homes. They were printed every new year in the 1900s. They were not items for keepsake so many didn't survive. Anything foreign especially American products were not welcome in China from the 1940s to nearly 1990s. The poster survived and in such an amazing condition is extremely hard to find. These are a rare pair of authentic‘Lotus’ foot-binding shoes. I am unsure of the age of these. They are about 4.5” 11.5cm) long and 3.5” 9cm) high. They are exquisite, made with the tiniest stitches and embroidery, all handmade. More about foot binding below. Foot binding(also known as"Lotus feet" is the custom of applying painfully tight binding to the feet of young girls to prevent further growth. The practice possibly originated among upper-class court dancers during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period in Imperial China(10th or 11th century) But spread in the Song Dynasty and eventually became common among all but the lowest of classes. Foot binding became very popular because men found it to be highly attractive. On the label in front of the horses is some Asian-type writing( I do not know what language(s) are displaced other than the english) The horse and chariot stand on top of red felt which is affixed on the top side of a wooden frame made for the display. I do not know what the horses are made out of. The chariot seems to be made out of a metal-type material. A very rare antique Chinese wood carved temple ornament. Circa early 1800s. This unique carving is a temple tablet. The top of the tablet is the head of a bat with its wings and legs spread out. Below that is a pearl. Two dragon heads are carved underneath the bat on the sides. Chinese names of various deities carved in the middle panel. The base has some floral design. The top is carved out of one piece of wood. It is then inserted in the base. Bats and dragons are auspicious symbols in Chinese mythology. You can see the carving is handmade from the telltale sign on the back. But the front is just so fantastic I doubt you can find another one similar nowadays. Solid antique Chinese hetan white jade. Circa Dao Guang period 1810s. The beautiful hand carved white jade pendant has a poem by Li Po on one side and carving of Li Po reading on the other side. There is an artist's seal at the end of the poem. The poem is beautifully carved in old Chinese scripts. I bought this jade in the 1970s when China first allow tourists to enter the country. It came from one of the government owned Friendship Stores in Shanghai. I have a small jade collection all from China and all before 1990s. This is one of my best jades. Very Rare Antique Chinese Solid Silver Hat Ornament circa late 1800s
This is a solid silver hat ornament. Made in China circa end of 1800s. The hat ornament is made in the shape of one of the Eight Immortals. He appears to be turning his head and his has wings. He is also standing on a bed of clouds. I have never seen a hat ornament looking like this. Eight immortals are symbols of fortune in the Chinese Tao beliefs. Even though the size of the ornament is very small there are a lot of details. The size of the ornament is small than an AA battery and yet you can see the minute details. Chinese children wore embroidered hats sewn with ornaments to ward off evil and bring good fortune. There are holes on the sides of the ornament for sewing. Extremely rare antique Chinese advertising poster. Circa 1930s. The poster features a Chinese lady in traditional Chinese costume standing by a rose bush. The poster was distributed by Gossages Soaps of London and Dublin. The name of the company in Chinese was Chian Mu. There are two bars of soap featured on the bottom of the poster. One has no name and the other one is Wheel Pale Soap. Several stamps on the bottom: Four stamps has the company's Chinese name. Two stamps has: Fragrant Honey Soap written on them. There is also an advertising slogan on the bottom: World Famous' written in Chinese. Name of Gossages in English, name of the company in Chinese, and two stamps that has London and Dublin written on them. Gossages was making soaps in England since the 1800s. They manufactured and distributed their products in other countries. ... moreChina was one of them. Their soaps were quite famous in the early 1900s in China. Gossages was found by William Gossages in the late 1800s and had become a very successful company until First World War when UK companies were producing non fragrant soaps for war effort. The company was sold to the Lever Brothers after the war and later became Unilever until today. The name Gossages was still used by Unilever until the 1960s. The metal rods and the cloth loop for hanging are still intact. Some tears on the sides. A couple of holes near the bottom. The main picture is not affected. The poster was printed in lithograph or stone printing. The quality is very good. You can see the fine prints on the soap packaging. Posters such as this one were given away as wall decorations in China. Most of them would have been stuck on the wall with some rice glue. Superb Rare Antique Chinese Solid Silver Paper Weight With Chinese Hallmark
Superb quality antique Chinese paper weight made of solid silver. Circa 1920s. Chinese solid silver hallmark. The fantastic weight is made of solid silver and is not silver plated. The weight is shaped as a screen panel. The top part has orchids and butterflies. The bottom part has a poem relating to the arrival of winter. The back of the weight has a Chinese silver stamp'zu yin' 足银 meaning solid silver. Scroll weights were just like paper weights but it served a particular purpose in Chinese literary tradition. Chinese scholars had rice paper scrolls which were very flimsy and in order to write on them the paper had to be weighted down on the corners. Sometime these scroll weights come in pairs or set of fours. This weight came from China in the 1920s. Original genuine 1927 antique Chinese advertising poster. Moneyback guaranteed. The very rare poster was produced by Standard Oil of New York or Socony. SO as it was called was changed to Esso in later years. The poster features a scene from the Chinese classic The Red Chamber. It was an epic about a spoil young man from a rich family who lived among beautiful women and their tragedies. A 1927 Chinese calendar is printed on the bottom of the poster. Standard Oil(SOCONY) started its business in Ohio. U.S.A. in the 1800s. They were selling kerosene oil to the Chinese market in the early 1900s and it was very well known to the Chinese as Mei Foo(美孚) Apparently the company was dissolved in 1911 in the U.S. due to lawsuits of monopoly. However they were still operating in China and operated in Hong Kong after the civil war in China. The poster ... morehas discoloured from age and has several tears. If you look at the back of poster in one of my photos you can see the damages. The paper is also quite brittle so care in handling is important. The poster was printed in stone printing or lithograph and the quality is excellent. You can still see the fine prints on the logo with an magnifying glass. Very rare antique Chinese dragon lantern made of brass. Circa late 1800s. The brass globe lantern has hand etched dragon design. It has cut outs from two pieces of brass with the dragon design etched on by hand. There is one dragon on each side of the globe. In the old day it would have had rice paper glued to the inside and a candle would be lit. Later a hole was drilled near the opening and was converted into an electric lamp. The Chinese used this kind of lanterns for centuries. New and similar style globe lanterns were made in Japan and other places. This one is Chinese as you can tell by the design. RARE ANTIQUE 19TH CENTURY CHINESE CARVED LACQUERED WOOD BUDDHA
This is for a rare original antique 19th Century Chinese carved lacquered wood Buddha holding the gift of a pomegranate fruit.The figurine has a gold edged sash and is mounted on a wooden stand.It is in good overall condition commensurate with age.But there is what looks like an old minor split to the wood across the left sleeve& repaired crack just below the left hand on the wooden staff,clearly seen in the photo's.The Buddha measures an impressive 11" in height,5" across the front of the base& 4" in depth at the base.The figurine itself without the stand measures 8 1/2" in height,just under 4" across the body at the widest point and just under 3" in the depth of the body.Good luck in your bidding.

This is a depiction of several different beautiful birds in a pond setting with some of the deepest most beautiful colors I have personally seen. This is a large piece 61" Tall by 80" Wide. The colors age this piece from the early 19th century to about 1915 at the latest. This piece is well signed. And with some knowledge it may be able to be identified.
