The central motif is a stylized lotus bud infilled with a turquoise chip and surrounded by applied filigree wire of sprigs. Flower and petal elements and six turquoise stones. This is a typical style of decorations found on this type of amulet box. The ga’u was worn suspended from the top gadrooned tube still in excellent condition. The lower decoration is a stylised dorje ornament. The Ga’u still has the original backing plate. Which has now some rust on it but still in tact and sits in the ga’u. Tibet. c.1850 Tibetan silver(called go go or gor-mo- meaning round) ga’u amulet box ornamented with filigree work. Genuine turquoise and coral, with a parcel gilt central medallion. The Ga’u was worn suspended from the top gadrooned tube which also has been strengthened by inserting a round cylinder of wood or yak leather. The lower decoration is a stylised dorje ornament which hangs at the bottom when worn. There probably was a loop at the bottom from which hung suspended ornaments. But appears to be missing. The dorje ornament has been mended and re soldered back to the bottom and also contains ... morea wooden cylinder inside which can been seen on close inspection in the centre back. The central field is covered in separately embossed or stamped filigree sprig leaves. Flower and petal elements, surrounding a stylized lotus bud with a central coral. The outer edge is decorated with individually stamped and applied petals of an open lotus, with a copper backing container. It is very hard to find round ga’u amulet boxes today that have the tube and stylised dorje ornament. Most are hinged on each side for wearing. Vintage silver lion on a red stone ball. Made in Tibet. The lion is beautifully made in Chinese style. It is standing on a red stone ball which is also encased in silver. Tibetan silver is not sterling silver. The silver content is much lower. It is nevertheless a nice piece. Height: 6.2 cm The battery is there for size comparison. It has nothing to do with the item. Most of my collection is one of a kind. I bought the items because I liked it for myself. They were never intended to be resold. This is an old and rare Tibetan gold and silver. Inlaid into iron belt. The inlaid parts are fasten to a newer leather belt. Which has also seen better days. The Tibetan belt must be of the late Qing dynasty in China. That is late 19th century or very early 20th century. The belt is depicting wonderful golden dragons set in what seems to be silver cloud.
