ANTIQUE KATCHUSHI JAPANESE SWORD TSUBA--NOT A CHINESE REPRO
I am offering a Momoyama/Edo period(approx. 1600’s) Japanese tsuba with a slightly raised rim. I estimate that the guard belongs to the Katchushi(armorer) school of tsuba makers. The tsuba measures 3 and 1/4 inches high. 3 inches wide and is about 2 mm thick. The openwork design is of some kind of flower blossom. The hitsu-ana(opening for the sword implements) is of an older style. The slightly raised rim is well done and shows the skill of the maker of this guard. The plate shows a very nice hammered pattern and there are some silver and copper inserts on the two surfaces(four on each side) The guard shows a nice dark patina and is in excellent condition with no rust. Genuine 1920s Chinese advertising poster promoting Japanese Yoshida soaps. Yoshida is a common Japanese name and I am not sure if it relates to the current Sharp International that produce electronics. The poster features a Chinese angel scattering flower petals(a Chinese legend of bring blessings to people) She is in traditional Chinese ancient clothings. The name of the soap appears on top and the name of Yoshida printed on the bottom. 1930s was the period prior to the Japanese invasion to China. Great numbers of Japanese products were sold in the Chinese market. Yoshida soaps were quite famous then. The poster is in very good condition only a tear on the top left corner and a few small tears on the edges. Nothing affected the main picture. The poster has been adhered to a cardboard backing. Awesome Japanese Chinese Antique Export Silver Iris Bowl
For auction is this absolutely stunning antique Meiji period Japanese silver bowl. The interior is circular whilst the outside is hexagonal with gorgeous embossed irises and bulrushes in the art nouveau style. Magnificently crafted. The design flows effortlessly around the bowl taking your eye with it. Please look at all the pictures as they form an important part of the description. This bowl is double-walled. I love the contrast between the outer hexagon and the beautifully smooth circular interior. This is in very good condition for its age with only minor age related wear. There are a some solder spots on some of the petals and leaves. There is also a small dink to one side of a bulrush leaf. I have noticed after looking at the photos in close-up that there is polish residue around some of the petals. Easily removed. Simply a stunning ... morepiece of Japanese export silver and one that would grace any collection. The bowl weighs 151 grams and measures 11cm in diameter. It stands approx. 5.5cm tall on a footed base. There are two marks to the base one of which I am reliably informed says"pure silver" Unfortunately the other mark was hard to capture on film and my source thought it might be"old" Japanese or just hard to read- so maybe someone out there recognises the craftsmanship and can possibly help me. Very Rare 1930s Chinese Cigarette Poster Produced In Japanese Occupied Manchuria
Early 1930s Chinese poster advertising cigarettes. Very rare. The poster was produced by Huafeng Tobacco Company. Its name appears on the bottom of the poster in Chinese. Its address in Harbin is below the company name. The poster features a Chinese lady in a traditional Chinese costume. She is also wearing a western style jacket. Advertising slogan on top of the poster. It says: Please smoke Manila. Horseball, Miss and Fly Eagle brands of cigarettes. There are four packets of the above cigarette brands on four corners of the poster. Name of the company appears in three of the packets. Huafeng Tobacco Company was owned by Japanese and operated out of the city of Harbin. Which was part of Manchuria in the 1930s. Manchuria was invaded by Japanese in 1931 and a Manchukao was formed with a puppet Chinese government headed by the last Chinese ... moreemperor. Manchuria was returned to China in 1949. Huafeng's product was quite popular in places like Beijing and Shanghai. Research of this tobacco company did not yield anything except for a Horseball cigarette packet in one of the Chinese collector's site selling for a princely sum of US$100. No posters or any related products were found. There are some tears on the corners. The metal rods are intact. The damages did not affect the main picture. The poster was printed by stone printing or lithograph. The quality is excellent. These posters were given away as decorations for homes. They were printed every new year in the early 1900s. 3 Vintage Chinese Japanese Large Jar Lids with Dragons and More
For your consideration are three vintage jar lids. I do not know whether to call them ginger jar lids or not. At least they are some sort of lid. I do not know if they are Chinese or Japanese so will have to leave that up to the experts to decide. I have had them for about 15-20 years purchased at an estate auction. I really have no idea how old they are. Perhaps someone will be able to tell from the images I have provided in the picture gallery. Each measure approximately 7-1/4" across at the widest point on the bottom and about 6" tall including the finial. All three have a dragon design and other oriental style motifs. Condition: I do not see any crazing. Chips, cracks, hairlines, and the like. I am not sure if they are hand decorated or transfer under glaze although I favor the latter. Please take the time to read and look at the pictures below This box is made of wood and has two doors on the front which are hand painted scenes of a kingfisher and fish in the river. Which have been done to a high standard, these are set into an orange type of metallic laquered wood and form the doors of the box, it has a lock but no key! These doors are attached by small hinges which are engraved with an"S" or a snake. A couple of the hinges are worn, but can be repaired with some new wire. These doors open to reveal a black shiny gloss painted wooden interior with gilded painted scenes of reeds and rushes. When you pull the drawers out the very back of the wood has not been painted. The outer skin of the box ... moreappears to have been repainted in dark wood at some point in its life, i have not attempted to clean the case or the doors. This has come from a house clearance and is definatley not a new item! The box measures 10 1/2" tall. 9 1/4" wide and 4" deep. Antique c1910? CHINESE or JAPANESE DRAGON CIGARETTE CASE HMS MUTINE Silverplate
I am not sure whether this cigarette case originates in Japan or China. It is silverplated and has the name of its original owner. Gerald Bell who served on the HMS Mutine. According to the internet, there was a"Mutine" which was launched in 1900, which served in the"Australian and Chinese stations" There was also a ship of the same name launched in 1948, but the case looks earlier. Those of you who know when this style of export ware cigarette case was available would be able to also date the era of service I would think. The case comes in fairly good condition apart from the loss of some plating, mainly near the corners. There is a little piece of metal edging missing near the spine(see photo) and I think that the arms which are meant to hold the cigarettes in place might have been sprung, but now they are loose. I bought this old ginger jar at an estate sale. It's obvious to me that it's old. I attempted to do some research on it but had no luck. Any help in identification would be nice. However this would only be interesting to me at this point. I didn't find any chips in it. I'm sure that it had a lid at one time too. It stands approximately 5 3/4 inches tall. Chinese or Japanese 5 FACE TEAPOT Vintage Antique 3D Three Dimensional Search probably- chinese or japanese 5 face teapot I would love to tell you exactly where this came from. How old it is and what the meaning of the five faces are. However, I cannot tell you any of this and therefore if you can tell me I would be very pleased to hear what you know. I have seen virtually the same item described. Over the years, as Chinese- Japanese- Asian. I have seen it described as from the 19th century and also the early 20th century. I have also seen one with a Bamboo handle which this does not have. I have shown a close up of the only mark I can find and that is on the base. The body of the teapot is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks BUT there are two chips on the lid- please see picture 5 and 6. The bigger chip on the rim to the left ... morebeneath the mouth measures about 1.5cm and the tiny chip to the top rim. Just left of centre, measures approximately 2mm. The teapot stands approximately 3.5 inches or 9cm in height with the nose on the lid being a little higher. From the spout to the back face is approximately 4.75 inches or 12cm. There is a quality to the carving which lifts it above most modern output from the far east. A marbled Chinese or Japanese. Tang style, Chinese seal- ink container. Probably of the Qing dynasty This is a well molded Chinese seal ink[the red thick Chinese ink used with chops] I bought this item in Japan at an antique fair. Couple of years ago. It is made of two different colored clays molded together. A time consuming technique first employed in the Tang Dynasty. It is covered in a rather thick layer of transparent glaze. I believe that this specific container was done later. In the Qing dynasty during a revival of ancient archaic styles. Weight 351 gr = 12.38 oz Height 7 cm =2.75 inch Width 9 cm = 3.5 inch

This was given to me by my father approximately 30 years ago and it was given to him by an old army friend after the war apparently it was found during an heavy downpour its been amazingly carved but is damage apparently it used to have a part blade that was loose and now gone the carving shows a warrior on top of another in foliage the carving is stunning but looks like it's missing an arm please see pictures it weighs 92.2 grams and is 14 centimeter long by 3 centimeters at the base starting low grab a bargain
