24" section of antique beaded edging in tiny gold beads with long black beads finish in g each strand. The beads form a zig zag shape along the bottom edge. This is very old. From the roaring twenties and the beads are in surprisingly good condition. The fabric they are attached to has a lo t of loose threads- you can see this in the picture. The beads are set in a circular like pattern, and features a short handle covered in beads. The interior is lined with a pale gray silk, and closes shut with a snap on the flap and front of the purse. Measurements: 4" high at the back. 3" high at the front 6 1/2" long. 3" wide Condition: Very good condition. There are a couple of spots where the beads appear slightly darker than the rest- black covering the fabric that the beads are attached to. Stained Glass Victorian Style Purse w Vintage Black Jet Beaded Trim
I love vintage beaded purses. and have been working in stained glass for over 20 years. so I thought it would be fun to combine them! I designed this stained glass hanging"purse" in the style of those beautiful Victorian vintage beaded handbags. Designed after one I saw at the last antique show. The glass I cut for the body is a gorgeous magenta and blue iridescent. Notice in the pictures how it can change color to purple and teal as the light hits it at different angles. The"frame" is made with a jet black glass and a little silver"doodad" for the clasp. The upper portion of the bag is cut from iridescent gray which changes to silver and bronze. The 3 flowers are cut from a white iridescent glass, which changes to pink and pale green in the light. I've added a 3" beaded fringe of bronze, blue, purple ... moreand clear glass beads. And finished it off with 1/2" antique black jet beaded trim repurposed from a vintage dress. It hangs from a black chain, just like a purse. The glass itself is about 6"x 6" and overall when hanging it's about 12" long. It's done in the Tiffany copper foil method, with and antique copper patina on the solder joints, and finished with wax to a bright polish. Just for clarification, this is not a functional purse. This is a one-of-a-kind hanging gift for collectors of vintage purses. perhaps a birthday or Mothers Day present! The last pictures shows some of my other stained glass purse creations. Relatively heavy, the fresh water pearls are dyed burgandy and the black glass beads are very cold to the touch. Sturdy lobster claw clasp is hallmarked 925 and the strand measures 25" The black beads are approximately 8 mm and the pearls are a little larger than 6 mm. Truly beautiful.
