It is about 13.4 cm or about 4 7/8" ... moretall(not including the base) About 50 grams(not including the base) It is very elegantly carved. Not over done like the more recent examples. It is in good condition as shown- the item in her left hand looks like it is missing its end. And there is a natural hole in the coral on her left cheek that is full of dirt or similar. Mrs. Mary Morrison. Was a collector, former museum curator and lecturer on Asian art at the University of British Columbia, Canada. She also played an important role in creating the Canadian Society for Asian Arts which got its start in Vancouver in 1968. Over her lifetime, she collected a fabulous collection of Chinese antiques, mostly snuff bottles, and porcelain. Most of her pieces were collected between the 1940's- 70's in England and North America. We were lucky enough to purchase some of the nicer pieces which we are offering on ebay. All the items are completely authentic. Authenticated by Ms. Morrison, and also vetted by ourselves. This is a rare opportunity to buy pieces collected over a lifetime, and kept until death, by an expert on Chinese porcelain. The last picture shows other items we are listing on ebay today. This is a Family Estate item. This fan was the great grandmothers. Acquired on one of their trips to Asia and beyond. She and her husband traveled extensively, and took world tours, as they were called in the Victorian era. They brought home wonderful pieces of art and handwork. They had a keen eye for objects of art and artisan pieces that just aren't produced with such time devoted care anymore. The fan has a tassel design at the end of the handle. This tassel is actually made up of 3 tiny fan pieces which are held in place at the end of a 3 ring chain. All carved from and as one continuing piece of wood remember. Astounding isn't ... moreit! The base of the chain has a hook carved into it for hanging the fan when not in use. The chain leads to the square decorated handle and the from the same piece of wood the artisan carved out each spay ending in a decorative point and fanning out with tiny edge curls. All done in a feather fashion giving a look of organized feminine accents. Just a wonderful and one of a kind piece of true art with function! The fan has had a later but still old shadow box framing with a carved wooden frame and a simple almost burlap background. Under glass. A very rare antique Chinese wood carved temple ornament. Circa early 1800s. This unique carving is a temple tablet. The top of the tablet is the head of a bat with its wings and legs spread out. Below that is a pearl. Two dragon heads are carved underneath the bat on the sides. Chinese names of various deities carved in the middle panel. The base has some floral design. The top is carved out of one piece of wood. It is then inserted in the base. Bats and dragons are auspicious symbols in Chinese mythology. You can see the carving is handmade from the telltale sign on the back. But the front is just so fantastic I doubt you can find another one similar nowadays. Exquisite antique Chinese porcelain plaque. Circa 1874 Xian Feng( 咸丰) period. The hand painted porcelain plaque features a scene of Chinese landscape. The scene shows a man riding a donkey with his attendant followed behind. They seem to be travelling towards a thatched hut deep in the mountain covered with snow. There is a man drinking wine in the hut. Minute and attention to detail. The artist had portraited the man on the donkey as an old man. You can tell by the tiny beard showing by his face. There are foot prints leading from the lower left to the bridge and stops where the donkey is standing. All shown great care and love to execute the painting. The plaque is glazed which means after the painting and writing. The plaque was fired in the kiln with low heat. To handle firing with various colours was a difficult process especially back ... morein the days. There is a poem on the top left hand side. It is about some one who braved the storm through the snow clad path to arrive at the Plum Blossom Cliff to taste the local wine. The plaque was dedicated to a man by the name of Poon. The artist signed. Sealed and dated the plaque. I bought this plaque in the 1960s from Macau. The plaque should have a wooden stand but when I bought it it was like this. Genuine antique Chinese jade pendant. Circa 1800s. The lovely pendant is make of the famous hetian white jade or the so called mutton fat jade. The carving on one side is an old man while the other side has some illegible Chinese poem which I had somebody worked out that it is: 三仙月大元上不口命 The jade has lovely opaque white colour. The jade was bought in China in the 1970s when China just allowed foreigners into the country. There was no private enterprise in China then. Black on the outside with the distinctive gold lacquer on the inside of the cups and also on the center of the small teaspoons Lacquer has been found to have been used in Japan as early as 7000BC during the Jomon period.
