This is a Family Estate item. This fan was the great grandmothers. Acquired on one of their trips to Asia and beyond. She and her husband traveled extensively, and took world tours, as they were called in the Victorian era. They brought home wonderful pieces of art and handwork. They had a keen eye for objects of art and artisan pieces that just aren't produced with such time devoted care anymore. The fan has a tassel design at the end of the handle. This tassel is actually made up of 3 tiny fan pieces which are held in place at the end of a 3 ring chain. All carved from and as one continuing piece of wood remember. Astounding isn't ... moreit! The base of the chain has a hook carved into it for hanging the fan when not in use. The chain leads to the square decorated handle and the from the same piece of wood the artisan carved out each spay ending in a decorative point and fanning out with tiny edge curls. Solid antique Chinese jade horse. Circa 1700s. The fantastic jade horse is make of the famous hetan jade or the so called mutton fat jade. The horse is in a seated position with his head turned towards the back. It has beautiful lines and wonderful hand carvings. The photos speak for itself. The jade was bought in China in the 1970s. There was no private enterprise in Shanghai. China then. This jade was bought from a Friendship Store. I have a jade collection and they are all different. For a long time I did not want to sell any of them. Now I need the cash and hoping that the jades will go to a nice home that can appreciate it. The jade is in perfect condition. It is very old. Antique Chinese wood carved panel from old Chinese house. Circa 1920s. It probably was part of a window. The carving features two children playing in the garden. The one on the left is playing a Chinese game with a kicking object made of feather and paper. The carving is carved from one piece of wood gilded and lacquered in red. Old houses in China were demolished in great numbers in the 80s and the 90s to make way for modern developments. A lot of the traditional carvings were thrown out. Amazing Antique Panels (3) with Hand Carved Stone/Jade Horses! Really Cool!
Wow. Is this EVER cool! I've been holding onto this 3 panel set of horse"art" carved from precious stone for a long time trying to find someone who can tell me about it. It looks to be Asian(maybe Occupied Japan? and perhaps from the early part of the century but really, I'm guessing. The horses are carved in great detail. A self proclaimed stone expert friend suggested some of it may be Jade. Then we tested all the stone art and he appears to be correct. Some is. Maybe you can tell me more? There is slight typical wear on the panels that are not connected(hinges don't function) with small scuffs here and there on the horses but very sparse and horse parts missing. On one of the panels, a piece of the landscape has been broken off. And it also looks as if there were more than 3 panels. Solid antique Chinese hetan white jade. Circa Dao Guang period 1810s. The beautiful hand carved white jade pendant has a poem by Li Po on one side and carving of Li Po reading on the other side. There is an artist's seal at the end of the poem. The poem is beautifully carved in old Chinese scripts. I bought this jade in the 1970s when China first allow tourists to enter the country. Hand Carved Antique Wood Table From The Philippines
Here is a great hand carved table from the Philippines. After helping my friend move his office to a new location. He just gave me this table. He told me it was in the family for awhile and that his uncle bought it for him for around $2,000 I believe. Not sure how much it is worth but as you can see in the pictures it's not mint. There is some scraps on top, and dry rotted crack on the picture. Legs are a little loose. I love the table but have to pay off my wedding instead so I'm getting rid of it. Very beautiful antique Chinese wooden stand made of huanghuali wood. Circa 1800s. The exquisite stand has a marble top. The marble has a hand etched painting of a lotus pond. The artist utilised the natural marble colour to create a background. The lotus leave are coloured in green. The lotus flower in white above the large lotus leaf. Two dragon flies on the left side of the marble disc. Artist's seal and signature on the left and right of the marble. The superb etching in addition to the colouring and the use of natural marble colours made this a really interesting piece. The stand itself is carved in the traditional Chinese design using tongue and groove method to put together. No nails were used. The top and the legs are joined very well and almost undetectable. This is a pair of signed antique or Vintage Asian Chop Sticks that came in a hand carved and hand painted signed wood case(maybe teak? The chopsticks are also wood I believe. The case is a gorgeous color wood with a pagoda and Crane hand painted on it and the artisans signature(see close-up picture. Letters within a cloud like shape) I bought them at an estate sale of an Asian collector who had many pieces well over 300 years old(lots of ivory and wood carvings) I don't know the age of these, but was told they have quite a bit of age. The wood or material that the chopsticks are made of make a glass type sound when tapped together so I think its an extremely hard wood. The pictures are taken in 2 different light areas for clarity. Genuine antique Chinese jade pendant. Circa 1800s. The lovely pendant is make of the famous hetian white jade or the so called mutton fat jade. The carving on one side is an old man while the other side has some illegible Chinese poem which I had somebody worked out that it is: 三仙月大元上不口命 The jade has lovely opaque white colour. The jade was bought in China in the 1970s when China just allowed foreigners into the country. There was no private enterprise in China then. This jade was bought from a government owned Friendship Store. I have a jade collection and they are all different. For a long time I did not want to sell any of them. Now I need the cash and hoping that the jades will go to a nice home that can appreciate it. The jade is in very good condition. I have taken photographs of various angle so you can see. Rare antique Chinese hetan jade. Circa 1700s. The very unusual jade carving is of a hunter carrying a large fox on his back. The animal is very large and as tall as the man. The jade is the famous hetan(hetian) or mutton fat jade. It is very well carved and has natural old veins. I bought this jade in the 1970s when China first allowed tourists to enter the country. This is for a realy nice Chinese Puzzle ball chess set which is hand carved with great attention to detail. It is made of cow bone, This is from the late 19th century to the early 1900's. It is a complete set with no missing or broken parts. The 32 pieces are a nice size with 6" Kings and 4 1/4" Queens. This set is in great condition for it's age and these sets are getting hard to come by. There is a lot of hours going into creating this chess set especialy the puzzle balls that have carved inner balls. A nice piece. Ex-California collection purchased in the early 1900's and taken with a large collection to USA from Japan just before the start of WWII.
