This is the finest Regency table of this type we have had in over 15 years of selling fine antiques. This is an incredible example of fine craftsmanship from the era. Solid mahogany tilt top is wavy from the age which is very typical. There is some minor wear in center of the top that takes away nothing. Fabulous carved acanthus leaf on pedestal terminating in extravagant paw feet in gold gilt paint. You will love this piece. Prince George(Prince of Wales) was Regent from 1811– 1820 but Regency became a convenient name for the first 30 years of the 19th Century. Regency furniture was the neoclassical antique style mixed with empire style and the later Georgian style of furniture. Elaborate and ornate. Antiques from Greece, Rome and Egypt were a source of inspiration for furniture designers, attempts were made to make actual copies of ancient furniture and there was even a vogue to copy some of the stone furniture, producing them in mahogany. The regency style of furniture carried on through the William IVs reign, but introduced a few more curves and some elegant decoration. Antique Regency furniture was plain. Slender and elegant. Brass was used for decoration, rosewood and zebrawood veneers were used for a striking look. Mahogany was still the wood of choice for most furniture makers. French polishing came into vogue around 1810 and allowed for smoother shinier finishes which suited the new elegant pieces. Antique Tiger Figured Maple Tilt Top Table c1800 Period Piece Good Condition
This early stand is about 26 ½ in. high with a 20 in. by 16 in. top. Figured Maple was used throughout and it has mellowed to a warm honey brown patina. It has a recent finish in good condition. The period latch has an old repair and one photo shows where a small piece of the support block was replaced with a new slot cut to receive the latch. One leg has a tight repair and the table surface shows small marks and stains from age. At some point. Metal straps were added to the bottom with 19th Century vintage cut nails; then later one modern screw. Georgian George III Antique Tripod Table 1821+tag Piecrust Tilt-top Provenance
Up for consideration is an important Tilt top Tripod Georgian Table with Pie crust edge top. Heavily carved shaft and legs ending in snake feet. The table stands in closed position about 24 3/4 inches tall with a slightly oval top measuring 18 1/2 by 18 3/8ths. The piece has carved knees culminating in snake or pad foot. The piecrust edged is sculpted from a single board. It looks to have had some butterfly joints to hold together the top that appears to have some natural age splits. It is marked or written"1821" underneath the table top.and likewise some other indiscriminate markings and an old paper label Please see photos. AAFA~Primitive~Early American~Antique~Pine Tilt/Flip Top Table/Bench w/ Pegs~VTG
Note: the sides are made from ONE piece of wood about 19 3/4" wide! The top has three"planks" each 12ish" wide. This was my grandfather’s table who was born in 1897. He lived around Baltimore. MD most of his life, so it may have come from that area. I am not sure about the history of it but my research shows that similar pieces date back as early as 1785. It is a lovely. Wide board pine, primitive, flip top trestle table in“room-ready” condition. Many early American homes were much smaller and so many of the furniture pieces had to have more than one purpose. Now for the details: The table top tilts up or down to form a nice hearth bench or a table. The bench seat has a hinged(black wrought iron) lift top compartment where one can store anything from table linens to blankets to games. There are four wooden pegs that hold ... morethe table top in place which is nice and wide and comfortably seats 6 when flipped down. Adding two benches and two end chairs would be a good way to utilize this great table for dining! One only needs two pegs for the up position. The arms are in a U shape(hence the trestle) and the table top can flip up from either side. The finish is older. There are plenty of dings and patches, but overall it is in very good condition. The table top is 57 3/4" long, and 37 1/4" wide. It is 52" tall open as a bench, and 29 3/4" tall closed as a table. The seat is 17 1/4” from the floor. The pegs(4 total) are all about 7" long. I have had this for over 30 years myself and have used it in many rooms as both a table and a bench. The storage area holds a lot of things. Antique Victorian FLORAL PAINTED TILT TOP TABLE Lush PINK ROSES Shabby SWEET!
Sublime Victorian era painted table found at recent estate sale. The measurements are 26" tall with a table top diameter of 19" The legs are about 16" across. These measurements were taken when the table was not tilted. The table exudes old world elegance mixed with charm. However there are some condition issues. The paint has varying amounts of wear and loss. Please view all pics. The sliding mechanism works correctly and the top holds snugly but the table sits at a slight slant. Some leg adjustment will need to be made to make the table level. There are old pads under the feet that may need to be removed. There is a tight crack in the base and a repair made with screws. One leg is a bit wobbly. However the table is certainly functional in its current condition. For shipping purposes the table has had the top removed from ... morethe base but can easily be reattached with the four original screws. Again. HOWEVER I AM NOT SURE WHICH WOOD IT IS MADE OF. THIS TABLE IS REALLY NEAT BECAUSE IT HAS AN INLAY OF THE SANTA MARIA, AND IS A CELEBRATION PIECE FOR THE COLUMBUS VOYAGE. A great early tilt-top table. 48" when titlted. Table is 36" round and table height is 28-1/2" This was made over a century ago and is likely to be passed down to your great-great' another hundred years from now. The stand and legs are tight. The original arrow latch mechanism was replaced with a square pin system some time ago. These tables were used for meals. Tea time and other small gatherings.and removed to a wall out of the way when it was not being used. Construction is suggestive of the mid-to-late 1800's. You'll be proud to have this in your home.
