Antique Papier Mache Dish Hand Painted And Gilt Persia India Birds Flowers
Up for sale here is an exquisite and unusual small antique papier mache dish with a lid. It looks to have some age and to originate from Persia or India; however I am not an expert on these pieces in any way and I am hoping that those of you bidding will know more than I will. It's very hard to date it. But it features a delicate design of kingfishers amongst flowers and leaves. It looks to have been hand painted and there are traces of gold, so originally it must have been gilded and lacquered but it has a delicate shell like finish, not polished or shiny. The base is an aged mustard colour and the design has hues of blue, green, and a samll amount of red. The lid has a small wooden handle with a hole in the top; whether it once has another piece on top I don't know. There's a black design on the lid, and four patches of blue, ... morean unusual blue. Maybe it's cobalt or lapis, but as I say, I have very little knowledge of these items, though I much admire their beauty. There is some damage on the inside. But the lid still fits well, and has a small indentation for that purpose. The inside is dusty and I have made no attempt to clean this. The dish is generally in good condition. But does have some wear, as would be expected with older pieces, but it's still very lovely. I don't know what it would have been used for. It measures approximately 10 cm or 4 inches in diameter and 6 cm or 2.25 inches in depth including the lid. Please note that the postage prices I have quoted are correct to the best of my knowledge. But should I be mistaken, I'll refund the difference. We do need to cover costs but don't make money on postage. A rare find. Bidding for this starts at £9.99 with no reserve. This is a Family Estate item. This fan was the great grandmothers. Acquired on one of their trips to Asia and beyond. She and her husband traveled extensively, and took world tours, as they were called in the Victorian era. They brought home wonderful pieces of art and handwork. They had a keen eye for objects of art and artisan pieces that just aren't produced with such time devoted care anymore. The fan has a tassel design at the end of the handle. This tassel is actually made up of 3 tiny fan pieces which are held in place at the end of a 3 ring chain. All carved from and as one continuing piece of wood remember. Astounding isn't ... moreit! The base of the chain has a hook carved into it for hanging the fan when not in use. The chain leads to the square decorated handle and the from the same piece of wood the artisan carved out each spay ending in a decorative point and fanning out with tiny edge curls. The fan has had a later but still old shadow box framing with a carved wooden frame and a simple almost burlap background. Under glass. Pleased to offer another household treasure. A large 8 panel Hand Embroidered Room Divider/ Dressing Screen. Each Panel is 19" Wide and 72 1/2" Tall. Can unfold to more than 12.5 feet. Wide enough that where it sits it took two pictures to get it all. Each panels embroidery work has it's own seperate picture. A close up of a panel 4 Flower was taken to show the fine detail of the embroidery. A Photo of the only found imperfection; a small dent on front right side of panel 8. About 3/8" and can be seen in last picture. This piece was purchased in the early sixties in Korea. We were told it was an antique then but I don't think it was. It was in too good condition. The horse is in a seated position with his head turned towards the back. It has beautiful lines and wonderful hand carvings. The photos speak for itself. The jade was bought in China in the 1970s. There was no private enterprise in Shanghai. China then. This jade was bought from a Friendship Store. I have a jade collection and they are all different. For a long time I did not want to sell any of them. Now I need the cash and hoping that the jades will go to a nice home that can appreciate it. The jade is in perfect condition. It is very old. Antique Chinese wood carved panel from old Chinese house. Circa 1920s. It probably was part of a window. The carving features two children playing in the garden. The one on the left is playing a Chinese game with a kicking object made of feather and paper. The carving is carved from one piece of wood gilded and lacquered in red. Old houses in China were demolished in great numbers in the 80s and the 90s to make way for modern developments. A lot of the traditional carvings were thrown out. It has been hand painted in rather muted colour of greys, yellow, deep greens, browns, and black. Amazing Antique Panels (3) with Hand Carved Stone/Jade Horses! Really Cool!
Wow. Is this EVER cool! I've been holding onto this 3 panel set of horse"art" carved from precious stone for a long time trying to find someone who can tell me about it. It looks to be Asian(maybe Occupied Japan? and perhaps from the early part of the century but really, I'm guessing. The horses are carved in great detail. A self proclaimed stone expert friend suggested some of it may be Jade. Then we tested all the stone art and he appears to be correct. Some is. Maybe you can tell me more? There is slight typical wear on the panels that are not connected(hinges don't function) with small scuffs here and there on the horses but very sparse and horse parts missing. On one of the panels, a piece of the landscape has been broken off. And it also looks as if there were more than 3 panels. Solid antique Chinese hetan white jade. Circa Dao Guang period 1810s. The beautiful hand carved white jade pendant has a poem by Li Po on one side and carving of Li Po reading on the other side. There is an artist's seal at the end of the poem. The poem is beautifully carved in old Chinese scripts. I bought this jade in the 1970s when China first allow tourists to enter the country. It came from one of the government owned Friendship Stores in Shanghai. I have a small jade collection all from China and all before 1990s. This is one of my best jades. Antique Hand Carved Teak 4 Panel Room Divider Screen with Inlays
This screen with its finely detailed. Intricate carvings of leaves and flowers is amazing. The patient hands of an artist have created traditional patterns carved in three dimensions. These older screens have been copied but the original craftsmen inlayed one side with a bright white material which enhances the rich colors of the teak. The many, more recently carved screens lack these inlays. On the reverse side of the screen brass leaves and vines are inlayed into the wood. Its rich, dark teak wood and the size lend this piece a real presence. The weight and structure of the screen make it quite stable. I am offering to ship this rather than using the"local pick-up only" option. It will be approximately 76"x 22"x 6" and I'm estimating the weight near 70 lb.s. I will ship in two boxes. Hand Carved Antique Wood Table From The Philippines
Here is a great hand carved table from the Philippines. After helping my friend move his office to a new location. He just gave me this table. He told me it was in the family for awhile and that his uncle bought it for him for around $2,000 I believe. Not sure how much it is worth but as you can see in the pictures it's not mint. There is some scraps on top, and dry rotted crack on the picture. Legs are a little loose. I love the table but have to pay off my wedding instead so I'm getting rid of it. The artist also signed the bottom, but i can't make out his name. The silver tag says SPECTRUM PROMOTION ASSOCIATES-2028 Talt Ave. Pasay City-Cable: SPECTRUM Manila Philippines.
