Here is a nice adult size breast plate in great condition. This regalia speaks of being well done native craftsmanship heavy with 3" bone hairpipe and loads of black and pewter finish pony beads in it's construction. The color scheme is elegant and the fringe with it's ruff of whisky brown and honey shades is quite attractive. It might be vintage and if so. It must have been stored away as it seems unused. It is 18" down and 11 across plus fringe and hanging bottom bead loops. Straps etc. It has 20" of neck strap and folded up waist straps on the bottom corners.It is tight and has no damage I can spot. Old Native American smoking pipe, beaded, painted, bone beads ,antler , feathers
This comes from an auction house I picked up a few other items this seems the most interesting. I am by no means even a little knollagebly about Native American Indian items. What I can do is describe it to the best of my ability. First the beads look to be all different sizes they look like they were strung wrapped and filled in with clay or some other stuff it is about 9 1/2 inches long x about 1/2 inch. It has a wooden bead for the mouth piece. It goes into what looks like an antler or bone which is about 5inches long. It has what I would call a carrying hemp rope or when I look very close it looks like hair but really should be hemp.the lower decoration is 4 feathers 2 of which are broken at the end. they are inserted into what looks like spent 22 Cal. The center is wrapped with wire strung with tiny glass beads and above and below are sections of wrapped brass wire. Aside from an old chip in the top of the head. Polished Bone Handle from a Jawbone from a Large Animal. Buffalo. Bear, Deer, or similar size. The Knife Blade is Hand Made from a Shortened U.S. Army Ames Sword- circa late 1800's. Large 9.75 inch blade& 6.25 inch handle for a total of 16 inches! Has engravings of circles on both sides of the handle. Which had meaning to be original owner. The circle is a universal Native American Symbol& could mean, fire, sun, moon, cycle of life. This one appears to be Sioux. Set with lead into the bone handle. The handle shows moderate staining from contact with hands& has appropriate age cracks. The scabbard is excellent condition. Huge 10 inches x 3 inches, minimal use. No apparent bead loss, but is more recently made and possibly a replacement to an original scabbard. The natural grain is evident throughout the piece. The necklace is approximately 20 1/4" long. The pendant in the center measures 4" long and 1 1/2" high.
