One is very heavy, made of metal and may even be silverplated, I don't know. She is 6 1/8" tall with a small amount of oxidation to the metal and it's very blackened over time. The other may be a hard early plastic or some kind of composite, she is 6 3/8" tall, and lovely as well. Neither is signed as far as I can see. Wonderful objects to put on a shelf in a room. This is a great and very different set of foo dog figurines in very good condition with movable eyes and ears one dog is missing both ears and the other dog is missing an eye and an ear these can be moved around in the figures as shown in Picture#11. I pulled them out as far as they go they have a long stem to them. I dont see any chips or cracks to these very old foo dogs just the mentioned missing parts. The foo dogs measure 6 1/2 Inches tall by 4 1/4 Inches wide and are not signed on the bottoms, each figure has 3-4 puppies hanging on them and one has a ball that can be moved up and down, see all pictures. But I don't know what they are for. I did scratch the bottom of one statue to make sure it was soapstone and found very tiny blue pieces in the soapstone. These did come from an estate of a person that was well traveled and was told they were very old. I looked these over and did not find any cracks or repairs anywhere, but I did find very few chips as would be expected. These two weigh 5lbs 4oz together. They are covered with a nice green glaze. Good vintage condition with minor flaws. They have typical surface crazing. One has a small hairline crack on the back of one ear(see picture above) and the other has a repair on one of the back legs and two nicks on the bottom edge base(see pictures) that doesn't show but feels rough to the touch. Antique S. Co. N.S. Ivory Bisque Porcelain Teapot w Embossed Museum Statues Up for sale is an elegant and lovely antique bisque porcelain teapot with an ornate embossed design that features a statue on each side that look like they are on display in a museum or perhaps ornate home or church. Both are outside a door. One is a woman carrying a crown on a pillow. The teapot is 10" long from back of handle to tip of spout. The teapot's top rim is ornately scalloped and it's 5.5" tall to the highest point on that rim. The lid fits down in there and in place the piece is 6.25" tall. The teapot has some crack lines that I've tried to show in the photos-mostly on the bottom and bottom edge with some repair material on the inside bottom. The male statue has a repaired crack line that goes up to it. One of the scalloped tabs ... moreon the rim has a flake to the outer coating as in the last photo. The lid has a small repair chips on the flared side and some little crackle lines. The edge also has 2 small chips/nicks that are very hard to spot when the lid is in place. The bottom of the teapot has some incised marks. S& Co. and"N S" I purchased this at an estate auction and am uncertain of its age but believe it to be many decades old if not 19th century. Antique French Empire Gilt Bronze Neoclassical Statues Greek Muse of History& Writing ~ Clio ~ ~* ~ Scarce and very hard-to-find pair of gilt bronze statues mounted on exquisite granite marble bases with bronze bead trim and original four gilt bronze bun feet on the bottom of each ~ from France in the 2nd quarter of the 19th Century(1825- 1850) and from the personal family collection. So these have not seen the market in a very long time ~ Fantastic and very detailed casting work on both figures and are cast in separate pieces. For example her downward arm holding the wreath and his front advancing leg are separate pieces, as are the torso upper and lower garment portion. ~* ~ Special Notes: Further research indicates that this is the French 19th Century sculptor's clever gender ~ bending play on the Greek Muse Clio, the Muse of History ... moreand Writing. And that this represents the Male and Female Aspects of History. The symbols for Clio are the Wreath of Victory and the Scroll ~ look at the items these two bronzes are holding. the French sculptor also"modernized" them and made them relatable by keeping the Old World symbols of Wreath and Scroll. But gave them"modern" bound books that they are looking at. Of course, the Ancient Greeks only knew scrolls and tablets, not the modern bound book that the French of the Empire period were making History in and of. The number 9 is most closely associated with the Muses. As there were 9 of them, and the female bronze of this pair bears 9 flowers in her hair. ~* ~ The Condition of each is Wonderful and Excellent ~ no problems with the bronzes save for some very minor spots of aging to the gilt gold finish ~ Each statue has a small corner nibble on the back of the marble base. Not major and you really can't see them because they're in the back and the just disappear(see photos 7& 8) ~ a few of the nuts on the bottom seem to have been replaced a long time ago. Perhaps the old ones wore out.but both figures are solid and tight on the bases
