Vintage Witherby / Winsted 1/2" Framing Chisel. NO RESERVE
1/2" Winsted Edge Tool Works Framing Chisel. Winsted is synonymous with Witherby and the co. started dropping the Witherby logo a few decades prior to its demise around the mid 1950's. The style of stamp on the back of the blade indicates it was produced circa 1945. Like a true framing chisel. The back of the blade has a gentle curve, similar to its bigger brother the slick, which puts it on the same plane as the bottom of the handle when the chisel is placed on a flat surface. The blade is 8" long, not including the socket, and has very little pitting and tarnish. What excites me the most, is the condition of the handle. Not only is it the original hickory, but the steel butt ring IS STILL IN THE FACTORY SEPARATION POSITION, i.e. the butt of the chisel handle has seen little if any mallet blows. Generally, these chisels, new, ... morehave the ring set in this position so repeated mallet blows force it more firmly onto the shoulder of the handle and subsequent blows then mushroom the then exposed end of the handle which further secures the ring in place. The ring is neither seated all the way down nor is the end of the handle mushroomed in any way. Please refer to the photos for these and other details. Chisel is 15 1/2" oa length. The edge was sharpened at some point to a slight skew, which makes me wonder if someone used it as more of a paring chisel and, hence, the lack of hammering on the handle. I lapped the back of the blade to 2500 grit and formed a micro-bevel on the top to the same grit, following the already formed skew. I normally start my auctions very low, but I almost don't wont to sell it. A very fine and hefty chisel.

We are listing for your consideration a lovely Vintage Framed Stained Glass Window or Screen Panel in the Wisteria Pattern. This piece is in Excellent Original Condition with one glass panel at the lower end having a straight secure hairline. Another to the left of that one that has 2 faint secure lines and another having a shorter y shaped secure hairline. You can refer to the last 3 pictures, the last picture is the back of the panel, the 2 lines are very hard to see on the front. No other issues, we guarantee 100% you will be more than happy with the excellent condition. The screen measures 17 3/4" x 13" x 1/2" and weighs approximately 5lb 4oz.The screen is framed all with bronze and has a wonderful green verde patina at the outer edge. The back of the screen has 10 sections at the top end that have raised pieces or double ... morelayers of stained glass and glass with natural lines in it. Wonderful colors to all the glass with a great wisteria pattern. The first 2 pictures are without flash with a bit of sunlight. This could have possibly been part of a fire screen, we are not 100% sure. Could be framed or used for a window. We believe the piece dates from the 1940's, we could not find any makers marks. 1/4" And 1/2" Vintage Witherby/Winsted Framing Chisels -NO RESERVE
Two Witherby/Winsted framing chisels. Witherby Warranted chisels were produced in Winsted Conn. by the Winsted Edge Tool Works Co. Sometime in the early 20th century. The co dropped the Witherby name from their tools. The mark on these two chisels indicate by their style or font that they were produced sometime c. 1945. The 1/2" chisel has it's original hickory handle which is in excellent condition as there is no evidence that it's seen many blows by a mallet. The 1/4" has a replacement handle as far as I can see. A catalogue illustrating these particular framing chisels is viewable at wkfinetools website. Also, there is a good timeline of when these chisels were produced by the style of stamp. Three Great Vintage Bone (Cattle?) Fans! Restoration or Framing!
Please read full item description and payment information before bidding! For auction is three antique fans. Two are bone(cattle? and the other is paper and bone. The measurements for the large bone fan are 14" across and 10 1/2" in length. The small bone fan is 12 1/2" across and 7 1/2" in length. The paper and bone is 17 1/4" across and 9 1/2" in length. These fans are not in useable condition. They need to be restored or would be nice for framing as pieces of art. The large bone fan does have some of the pieces broken and at one time was repaired although not professionally and not by me. The small bone fan has some damage and just needs to be re-strung so it can be unfolded correctly. The paper fan does have damage to the paper as well as the bone, one has been broken. This is an vintage Japanese Carpenters square. It is metric on one side and measured in"sun" pronounced"soon" on the other. A"sun" is equal to 1.193 of an inch. This was from before Japan was metric. There are still some things that are traditionally measured this way in Japanese construction. It is made of thin flexible steel. The advantages of this thin flexibility is: Its very light and it can bend. Bending is useful when you are doing round figures or circumferences.
