He was a leader in providing social support for young workers in the cities of industrial Germany, and worldwide. Kolping grew up as the son of a shepherd. At the age of 18 he went to Cologne as a shoemaker’s assistant. He was shocked by the living conditions of most people living there, which influenced his decision to become a priest. I am unsure of the exact material that it is made from but my best guess is that it is made from a heavy plaster material and coated with a bronze color covering. This is only my guess however. The characters inside this sculpture appear to be a King and his son greeting the wife to be. This item weighs 3.6 pounds and measures 8 and 1/4" wide by 10 and 1/2" tall by 7/8" thick. This is a stunningly rare antique 19th century solid gilded bronze religious Adam and Eve circular wall plaque. it is made from very thick bronze. Is a heavy piece, and has acquired a lovely patina form age. It is made with an abundance of very intricate intense detailing and done in extremely high relief. it depicts Adam and Eve surrounded by dense foliage and several apples in the foreground. Adolph Kolping(December 8. 1813 in Kerpen— December 4, 1865 in Cologne) was a German Catholic Priest, who has been beatified by the Catholic Church. He was a leader in providing social support for young workers in the cities of industrial Germany, and worldwide. Kolping grew up as the son of a shepherd. At the age of 18 he went to Cologne as a shoemaker’s assistant. He was shocked by the living conditions of most people living there, which influenced his decision to become a priest.
