It is about 25"w x 20"d x 51'h The bottom flares out a extra 1" on the front and sides. It is Chrome and White Porcelain tile. It has several cracked or chipped tiles. The right side has 2. The front has 4,left side has 6. top 1. The inside has damage tiles also but I did not count them you can see the damage on the doors in the pictures. The bottom front has a piece that pulls of to access the drain tray. I do not have that tray. I have spoke to many Collectors and these are very rare. This auction is for an antique or vintage refrigerator from either the 30s or 40s. This is actually in very good condition for its age and still runs. There is obviously wear and tear but overall the condition is good for the age of the piece. This is about 5 foot tall(w motor) and 5 foot wide. The feet are a bit rusty but no where near rusted through. It is only surface rust. The inside is very clean. And the shelves are here still. Antique Albatross Icebox -- Gorgeous Patina -- 1920's -- VERY Rare!
I'm selling a vintage(antique. Really) Albatross brand icebox. I believe this is from the 1920's, as it very much resembles the size and shape of a typical"monitor top" refrigerator from the late 1920's, but obviously without the refrigeration apparatus. In 2008 I purchased a 1920's era Craftsman home in La Mesa. California and found this in the laundry room. It is shockingly well preserved, with a nice patina and the only real evidence of its age being the degradation of its rubber gaskets at the top. I installed some simple weatherstripping around the door and used it on the covered patio for extra beverage storage during parties(you can still get block ice for it easily at many grocery stores) Amazingly. Everything inside still works perfectly and the latch on the door has the most satisfying"click" ... moreaction you can imagine- much more solidly built than appliances nowadays. This icebox could really be used every day! I had always planned to restore the icebox. But I just haven't found time and it doesn't really fit in my new home. So, I'm putting it up for sale. Grain painted white pine, and having an inner lift lid for the ice compartment, both lids with wooden pulls, iron handles to the ends, tapered turned legs, and a molded base resting on casters. This chest is 27 3/4" high. 28" wide, 18 1/2" deep. Surface mars and scratches, but has had excellent care. Problem areas have been pictured: A broken wooden knob and a slightly damaged left corner. Features a solid white outer Porcelain casing with two latching doors. On the inside are three racks for storage and a freezer. This piece is extremely heavy and truly a monster! Rare Antique New Grand Challenge Refrigerator Co Carved Griffin Wood Ice Box
Up for bid is an absolutely stunning AND RARE luxury/ high end antique ice box! This was made by the Challenge Refrigerator Co. and is referred to as the"Griffin" refrigerator. Unlike standard antique ice boxes. This one is ornately carved with two roaring lions' heads at each top corner. The bottom legs are in the shape of lions' paws. Also unique to this ice box is the upper freezer section and beautiful mirror on the freezer door. This piece is in near perfect condition! The only major flaw I can find is a small section of the hand carved detail has broken off of the bottom front of the lower door. HERES A DETAILED DESCRIPTION: ~MCCRAY COMMERCIAL REFRIGERATOR MODEL 120 PRODUCED EARLY 1900s. THE THE REFRIGERATION COMPONENTS WERE MADE BY FRIGIDAIRE. MEASUREMENTS; 72" X 72" X 29 1/4" WEIGHS APPROX. 360 LBS. THIS COULD BE REWORKED TO MAKE A WORKING UNIT FOR BEER OR WINE. LOOK GREAT IN A COUNTRY STORE OR WOULD ALSO BE GREAT TO USE AS A PANTRY.
