1900's Four Door Antique Herrick Oak Ice Box
The stunning old-timey four door antique Herrick Ice Box is a rare find. This particular unit is made of old growth oak. And due to the absolute best of my knowledge this ice box was manufactured by the Herrick Company in the early 1900's. The interior of the ice box has thick insulated walls as well as doors with; original well cared for cam latches on each door to properly secure them. Although a latch has been bent over the years all are functional and close the unit's door properly. To facilitate moving the ice box around we have constructed a steel frame with casters for moving the unit with ease. In addition to the rest of the ice box. It has its own original drip pan. The whole ice box weighs in at a whooping 400 lbs. When it comes to size this ice box is one of the largest. Large Antique Metal Ice Box, Coolerator, 2-Door
This no-reserve auction offers an antique Coolerator ice box. Model A, manufactured by Coolerator Refrigerator Corporation, Duluth, MN, USA. This was made in the 1930s. This is a large ice box. All metal, with 4 small deco legs. These legs are very similar to the GE Monitor Top legs from this era. It features two doors. The large bottom door is for the food storage area. Complete with two full-shelves and one half-shelve. The top door is for the ice storage area. Complete with grates and water drain tube. It has chrome(or nickel) hinges and latches. These have interesting deco style detailing. The inner door trim is wood. Everything works…the latches work and the doors open. Close, seal properly. There’s no major damage anywhere on the body. It’s in desperate need of a new paint job. There’s rust throughout the exterior(mostly towards the ... morebottom exterior) but all of it is light surface rust. The condition can be seen in the photos. We actually purchased this in Chicago. IL and we hauled it back in a load of antique refrigerators and stoves. This piece would look really great with polished hinges and a fresh paint job! The ice box measures: 60 1/2” H x 30” W x 23 1/2” D(including the protruding door latches) The weight is a guess. Somewhere around 250 lbs. We have no way to accurately weigh this item. My wife and I are private collectors that are liquidating our estate. We are moving to South America in two or three years. Antique Alaska Brand 3-Door Ice Box
Civilizations have been harvesting and using ice for keeping food fresh since before Roman times. The ice was usually kept in large ice houses for subsequent harvest. Since it was not feasible for everyone to have their own ice house. The ice box was developed sometime between 1830 and 1840. It was little more than a wooden box with an area to hold a block of ice. Over the next few decades improvements were made to the original design. The average ice box was made of wood- usually oak. The interior walls were hollow and were lined with tin or zinc. The walls would then be filled with insulation. Some of the materials used to insulate the walls of these antique ice boxes were: seaweed. Straw, cork, sawdust, other local materials. The Alaska brand ice box was manufactured from before 1900 through the 1930s in Muskegon. Michigan. The exact date ... moreof this particular piece is not determinable. The wood of this piece appears to be cherry- perhaps mixed with some oak. The insulation, however, is cork. In fact, this is a unique, and rare, specimen in that there is a cork display hole(see photo) which is indicative of a"salesman's demo model. It should be noted that the drain flap at the bottom is fully intact and original. This is usually one of the first pieces to go missing in an old ice box like this. Everything here is original- except there are no wire racks. There is the usual wear for a piece this old- e.g. There are a few nail holes on the top(see photo) and a small crack on one of the doors. The dimensions are 34 1/2" W x 18 1/4" D x 47" H. The label is an original metal"Alaska" nameplate- not a stencil. The label size is 1 1/2" x 3 1/4" The top left door is 13 1/2" x 24" The bottom left door is 13 1/2" x 11" The right compartment door is 13 1/2" x 36 1/4" This ice box resides in a smoke-free home in Northern Virginia near the nation's capital. Antique Baldwin Ice Box/Refrigerator Door Handle w/latch 1892
This is the handle and latch for an antique Baldwin Ice Box. Handle measures about 6" overall and 4" center to center of screw holes. This handle also has a lock but I don't have the key. The latch measures 3.50" overall and screw holes are 2.25" center to center. The very tip of the handle screw has been filed flat and lost its point but should make no difference in the mounting procedure. Great patina and excellent condition. This antique ice box has what looks to be a cast iron water reservoir in the center. And has a cast iron lid. The reservoir is almost oval shape. Structurally in fine condition! One of the solid brass door handles is broken which could be braised or simply replaced. The handle still closes the door. I have a really nice antique oak 3 door ice box. I'm not sure of the specific age of the ice box. But was told sometime before 1940's. The ice box measures 41 1/2 inches tall, 32 inches wide, and 16 3/4 inches deep. Brass hardware and all the hinges/latches are in good working order. There is no damage of what I see and the wood is in pretty nice condition. No major scratches. Scuffs, etc. If you live within 100 miles of Springfield. IL, I can arrange a delivery to your place, but will need to charge $100.00. My pick up truck doesn't get great gas mileage. Wooden Ice Box 6 Door Two Sides Historic Hays House Restaraunt Council Grove KS
This Ice Box is a little different than a lot of them. It has four doors on one side and two doors on the opposite side of it. I think it was refinished at some point in it's life. I don't think it was done anytime recent. a couple of the door handles are broken but still latch. I bought this at an auction in Council Grove, KS and they advertised that it came out of the Hays House Restaraunt there in Council Grove. Picture#2 shows the sliver of wood that is missing on the bottom and one of the bottom panels had been broken and glued back together. When I have moved it there have been small pieces of charcoal fall out of it, insulation maybe? It is roughly 50 inches tall, 39.5 inches wide, and 21 inches deep. This is a gorgeous Antique 1920's 3-Door Ice Box Refrigerator manufactured by The Alaska Refrigerator Company of Muskegon. Michigan The only manufacturer's marking is a small brass plaque on the front in the shape of a life preserver. It says"A LIFE PRESERVER FOR FOOD" underneath that in brass it says"CORK WALL" I saw an old newspaper ad from 1926 showing this exact Alaska model( on sale for $19.99! so I'm guessing its from around that time. This ice box seems to be made of oak. Has 3 doors(as shown) and the original metal(brass) latches, striker pieces, and hinges. All are in perfect working order. It rolls on 4 caster wheels which don't appear to be original. I think the original wheels were made of wood) The bottom has a small panel on the front. That flips up for easy cleaning and access underneath. ... moreIt's original purpose was to access the drip pan that collected water from the melting ice. I do not have a drip pan. The interior is a combination of galvanized metal(tin) and wood. It was painted white at some point in its life. It comes with antique scissor-action metal ice carrier and 3 removable interior shelves. Also includes original pieces for some time of drainage system. See last pic for details. Measures about 16 inches deep x 31.5" wide x 43" tall on casters. I am downsizing and no longer have the room for this piece. It has been part of our family for over 20 years. I have a nice early lot of antique ice box latch handles and catches for your consideration. Most of the nickel plating is worn away exposing the cast brass manufacture of the hardware. Distressed shabby with lots of opportunities for cabinets. Cupboards, curios, chests or other furniture renovations or projects. Spring feels good on the larger pair for reuse. Smaller latch handle and catch may need a new spring and has better original plate finish. These appear to be a 1/4 inch offset from handle latch to catch. antique ice box door handle hinges vintage ornate Victorian Eastlake hardware
I have a nice set of late 1800's cast brass ice box hardware for your consideration. These have a date that is hard to read but looks like either 1887 or 1897 of June. The latch handles are left and right and marked as such as well are 5/16 offset as are the hinges. Included are the matching catches. The hinges are marked 5/16 as well. One of the springs will need to be replaced although would work with out it. I would have done so already however the set screws on the back were stubborn and I did not want to damage or take the time to soak in liquid wrench. As well you will need to repair one of the brass pins on the one of the latch handles. Some one did a primitive repair with an iron nail some where along their lives. I am also including an additional latch box and handle for any additional parts you might need at some point. last ... morepic. All solid cast brass manufacture except backplates. You will have to find a key or have on made to lock your door since there are no keys. Look at pics closely and questions are welcome other wise what you see is what you get.
