He was a mathematician. Astronomer, geographer, astrologer, and poet(of a single epigram in the Greek Anthology) He lived in Egypt under Roman rule, and is believed to have been born in the town of Ptolemais Hermiou in the Thebaid. Printed in Istanbul in the year 1803 by the Ottoman Military Engineering School[Tab'hane-yi Hümayun] and was bound with Mahmud Raif Efendis geographic study on the maps entitled Ucaletü'l-cografiyye. This is an older advertising tray for Hertz Truck Rentals. It has a paper reproduction of portion of a 1617 old world style map that features Adam and Eve on the bottom. I can't offer much more information than what is shown in the pictures because I haven't been unable to find another one like it. It is about 1.5 high and 8. 25" in diameter. Approximately one-third of the map survives; it shows the western coasts of Europe and North Africa and the coast of Brazil with reasonable accuracy. Various Atlantic islands including the Azores and Canary Islands are depicted. As is the mythical island of Antillia and possibly Japan. The historical importance of the map lies in its demonstration of the extent of exploration of the New World by approximately 1510, and ... morein its claim to have used Columbus's maps, otherwise lost, as a source. It used 10 Arabian sources, 4 Indian maps sourced from Portuguese and one map of Columbus. Had professionally dry mounted, matted in dark natural linen mat with black wood filet and a simple black wood frame, each measuring 17.5"w x 20.5"h. Set of two are of the EASTERN HEMISPHERE and WESTERN HEMISPHERE respectively, with tons of charm and detail in very subtle neutral tones/color. I don't have any details as to the origins of the prints as it was so long ago.
