The piece is in good vintage condition, there are a several ... morecracks in the wood, two are all the way across the back, one is across the front and one on the left side. While they do go through to the inside they do not seem to impact the integrity of the wood. The two hinges and latch/closure are moderately rusted but all function, there has been some water damage across the lid and down the front to bottom, you can see a dark water mark on the center top portion of the front, the lid is warped a bit due to the water so while the latch closes and opens you do need press the wood down a bit to line it up, the interior of the crate is in very good condition. I am putting up for sale this vintage 1/3 Barrel(meant to hold 33 pounds of cranberries) Wooden Cranberry Box/ Crate which reads CAPE COD CRANBERRIES on one side of the box in red ink or paint. Another cranberry box side has been inserted into the middle of the box and secured with old box nails and has been braced with the strips of wood from another box underneath it to make it more secure. It could also be used as a shelf or an open face cabinet for knick knacks and what not with that old Cape Cod/ New England look. This box/ shelf is about 50 years old. The open slats on the sides& bottom's purpose was to keep the cranberries vented to avoid rotting of the cranberries during storage. These types of boxes were used to hold 1/3 of a barrel(33 pounds) of freshly picked cranberries during harvest season back in the day and were not ... moreused for shipping. This same size and type of box is still used to this day although some people perfer to use burlap bags when dry picking their cranberries because it's less labor intensive. It measures about 22 1/2" long x 16" wide x 9 1/4" tall O.D. 20" long x 14" wide x 8 1/2" tall I.D. It weighs about 8 pounds. This box/shelf is in good& solid condition considering its age. Vintage 1950s wooden box/ wooden crate. This large California agricultural storage box is very sturdy despite its age and areas of wear. All boards are original and secure. Overall it has a very nice look to it. There are red stripes painted on the vertical sides. There are some paint blemishes on one side and in the interior. This is a"one of a kind" not another on Ebay super RARE 1800's Crawford Taylor Bakers Cake crate. The original paper labels are in great conditon. The inside label that has been out of the light for over 100 years is just beautiful! I also have a letter from the company on original letterhead and signed by Crawford Taylor. The cake shipped in this box was a lemon cake, because it has XXX LEMON on the outside. The dimensions of the box are 17" wide x 12.5" high x 14.5" deep. The appear to be a little off from a straight line when viewing from the front. Hardware used seems to be from a more modern time.
