They had been used to hold books in since the 1950s so they are in fairly good shape and are very clean. There are no lid/cover for these crates-sorry. This is a"one of a kind" not another on Ebay super RARE 1800's Crawford Taylor Bakers Cake crate. The original paper labels are in great conditon. The inside label that has been out of the light for over 100 years is just beautiful! I also have a letter from the company on original letterhead and signed by Crawford Taylor. The cake shipped in this box was a lemon cake, because it has XXX LEMON on the outside. The dimensions of the box are 17" wide x 12.5" high x 14.5" deep. Ok. How do I describe this? This is an AW ESOME Unique Wooden Crate with dovetail or notched joints. The best part about it? The logo. It was once used to carry DU PONT Dynamite! I've been watching these on ebay for a while now. And these have sold as high as $180, and average $106. Check it out! Logo Side 1 Reads: 50 lbs. BP- 1 1/4 x 8- DUPONT Explosives- Red Cross Registered U.S.PAT.OFF. Extra Dynamite- 60% Strength x 29 HT Logo on the long Sides Reads: High Explosives- Dangerous I.C.C.14 All 4 sides are shown along with the bottom of the box. Condition: First off. It's old. So it looks Old. This is untouched because it leaves the care and restoration to the buyer's choice. Imagine using some murphys wood cleaner on it to bring it out more! But they were probably there since day 1, as the wood used to make these isn't high grade oak, it's light weight but strong wood. Not sure what type of wood. On one exterior side are some burn marks, which actually makes it cool. It has some residue on one exterior side, looks like glue and some wood has chipped off. In the joints some notches are chipped, but the joints hold strong. The pictures show each side of the box very clearly. So inspect the pictures. It has the Wilmington Delaware U.S.A stamped on the two sides that the paint is rubbed off but it is visible. Don't know what the one end has on it- a Giant possibly? Also has a round hole on one side. Don't know if it came with it or not. This is a tremendously cool and unique old advertising crate. Awesome BOLD and clear graphics for the Glover's Mange Medicine company. I've never seen another like it and we sell a LOT of crates. Dark wood. Original old nail construction and the bottom is a dovetail construction. Even has all four original metal"feet" Measures 20.5" X 15 X 10. Two long sides say: Glover's" Imperial" Mange Medicine" Short sides both say the same with"3 Doz" added. One side still has part of the original waybill label with the Patended date of 1917.
