Art Deco Abduction of Europa Bronze Statue Nude Bull Toro Sculpture D H CHIPARUS
Your source for diverse Art Selections This sculpture is a bronze rendition of a plasteline model attributed to Demetre Haralamb Chiparus. Picture Below: The first sculptures of Chiparus were created in the realistic style and were exhibited at the Salon of 1914. He employed the combination of bronze and ivory. Called chryselephantine, to great effect. Most of his renowned works were made between 1914 and 1933. The first series of sculptures manufactured by Chiparus were the series of the children. The mature style of Chiparus took shape beginning in the 1920s. His sculptures are remarkable for their bright and outstanding decorative effect. Dancers of the Russian Ballet, French theatre, and early motion pictures were among his more notable subjects and were typified by a long, slender, stylized appearance. His work was influenced by an interest ... morein Egypt, after Pharaoh Tutankhamen's tomb was excavated. He worked primarily with the Edmond Etling and Cie Foundry in Paris administrated by Julien Dreyfus. Les Neveux de J. Lehmann was the second foundry who constantly worked with Chiparus and produced the sculptures of his models. Chiparus rarely exhibited at the Salon. In 1923 he showed his“Javelin Thrower” and in 1928 exhibited his“Ta-Keo” dancer. During the period of Nazi persecution and the World War 2 the foundries discontinued production of work by Chiparus. The economic situation of that time was not favorable to the development of decorative arts and circumstances for many sculptors worsened. Since the early 1940s almost no works of Chiparus were sold but the he continued sculpting for his own pleasure, depicting animals in the Art Deco style. At the 1942 Paris Salon, the plaster sculptures“Polar Bear” and“American Bison” were exhibited and in 1943 he showed a marble“Polar Bear” and plaster“Pelican” Collector interest in the work of Chiparus appeared in the 1970s and has flourished since the 1990s. Mounted on marble. This signed bronze measures 11” H x 16" W x 6" L. the marble base measures: 1.5&q

The lost wax method was used design this piece. The Art of Lost Wax. Lost wax casting has been around for thousands of years. Yet few people understand ... morehow the process actually works. Although mechanization has facilitated the lost wax process of bronze casting. The procedure is basically the same as that used by the Chinese when they first developed the process in the 2nd millennium BC. The Rubber Mold. First the artist creates an original sculpture out of any number of media. Including stone, wax, clay, wood and pottery. This image is coated with a silicone rubber molding material that makes two rubber mold halves(each rubber mold has a front and a back piece) A fiberglass outer shell is added to the back of each mold so it retains its shape and rigidity during subsequent uses. These molds are the only components that are ever re-used in the casting process. All other components are re-created for each casting. The Wax Positive. Once the molds are done. The insides are coated with layers of wax. The halves are then bound together and wax poured inside to complete the wax image being created. Once the wax has cooled. The mold is peeled away, yielding a wax image(the wax positive" duplicating the original sculpture. This image must then be"touched-up" to remove any seam lines. Scratches or other flaws, as w

Here Artist original clay sculpture is nearly ready for the foundry. Note the artist is still adding the finishing touches. Most sculptors prefer to work with clay or wax; some however. Do use wood and other mediums. Here the finished original clay is now complete. The sculptor will take it to the foundry now, get a bid then begin the first stages of the lost wax process. The first step can be shocking for some as they begin to decide how this original will be cut up. In order to prepare the original clay sculpture for molding. It will be dissected by cutting the clay with wire and by cutting the armature with a saw. The armature is what helped support the clay in place while the artist was creating it. Note the registration marks which later in the process will serve to realign the parts. Shown here are the sections of the original clay sculpture after having been dissected. Now the various parts of the original are carefully mounted on clay plugs before the rubber mold material is applied. The clay plug later serves as a pour spout for the mold
