According to his pamphlet, he is“inspired by the cavorting fellows in The Comical Hotch-Potch ... moreor the Alphabet turn’d Posture-Master” first printed by well-known English publisher Carringon Bowles in 1782. The pamphlet shows in picture and rhyme how this floppy-limbed fellow can be used to make the 24 letters of the alphabet(J” and“U” were not commonly used in the 18th century) and describes his history. He’s over 20” long with arms over 10” long and legs about 12” long. Hotch Potch is lightly used but looks great except he may have once had a second felt button– there is a stitch in his stomach in the spot where one might have been. His 8-page cardstock pamphlet has no rips; the corners are a little worn. No odor that I can discern. Surface wash only. We are a smoke and pet free home. It is approximately 14 inches in height when the handle is down and 19 inches in height when the handle is up. The opening across the top is approximately 9.5 inches across. This is a great piece with only very minimal scuffs and small blemishes with natural leather wear. Otherwise. The leather is in the condition we bought it in. This auction is for a Colonial Williamsburg reproduction delft punch bowl made by OUD of Nijmegen Holland. The original was excavated in fragments from the site of the Coke-Garrett House in Williamsburg. The generous size of this punch bowl is enhanced by the nicely scaled design of birds. Flowers and leaves in the traditional shades of blue. It is just slightly under 6” high and 10” in diameter. On the bottom it has the oval“4CW” restoration mark and an incised date of 1969. DISH THIS ONE UP! This is an unmarked Colonial Williamsburg early vintage manufacture reproduction Slipware Combed Pottery Trencher Dish imitating the folk pottery made in the18th c for use in the buttery. Pantry, early fireplace kitchen area in countryside where carriages and commerce did not bring refined tablewares to homes in the Rev War days. I bought it along with similar matching articles and can only surmise this early piece failed to receive the oval backstamp after production when quality control didn't matter, and I would not insinuate or connect this origin, unless I was really sure. Please study the pictures taken ouside innatural sunlight to see folky primitive details of this hand thrown piece. Trencher with scooped sides measures 5.5" x 7.5" with inner glaze a rich mustard color and combware brown graining like ... morea Napolean dessert cake! Edges are half glazed coggle crimped. And rear has been darkened with dry overglaze not shiny. A pool of slip(liquid clay) has formed in firing at the bottom of this piece resulting in a darkened area that looks like maple syrup! Just charming, folky, quirky, hand made, very realistic.nothing in the 18th c for utilitarian use, was quite perfect, given rudimentary process involved. Set with real antiques in a photo shoot, it is hard to tell the difference! Item is hefty at 1.25 pounds weight so suggest Priority rate in box well bubble wrapped with peanuts. The detail and finish of the knocker display the fine craftmanship and finish VM is known for in their authentic sand cast reproductions. This design captures the authenticity of Colonial America. Virginia Metalcrafters has now gone out of business after over 120 years of providing Colonial Williamsburg, Old Sturbridge Village, Monticello, Old Salem, Mystic Seaport, Historic Newport, the Met, and other restorers and museums with quality authentic Americana reproductions. This 2 pound knocker measures a majestic 1 1/2" wide by ... more7 1/4" tall and the mounting escutcheon and strike plate are 2" in diameter. The handle has 4 1/2" of travel to wake even the hard of hearing. The back has both the VM and CW logos molded into it. Hand cast and hand finished using traditional methods. HOTCH POTCH Colonial Williamsburg 1996 Stuffed Rag Doll ALPHABET MAN ABC +Tag
Meet Hotch Potch– a soft. Stuffed pal from Colonial Williamsburg. According to his pamphlet, he is“inspired by the cavorting fellows in The Comical Hotch-Potch or the Alphabet turn’d Posture-Master” first printed by well-known English publisher Carringon Bowles in 1782. The pamphlet shows in picture and rhyme how this floppy-limbed fellow can be used to make the 24 letters of the alphabet(J” and“U” were not commonly used in the 18th century) and describes his history. He’s over 20” long with arms over 10” long and legs about 12” long. Hotch Potch is lightly used but looks great except he may have once had a second felt button– there is a stitch in his stomach in the spot where one might have been. His 8-page cardstock pamphlet has no rips; the corners are a little worn. No odor that I can discern. Surface wash only. We are a smoke and pet ... morefree home.
