A January 30. 1987, New York Times story about the auction noted- I wanted a bowl for the dining-room table. Jill R. Fine said, recalling how she and her husband, M. Austin Fine, began their 25-year pursuit of Americana. Most of the couple's collection- 338 ceramics, paintings, pieces of furniture, quilts and weathervanes-is to be auctioned today at 10:15 A.M. and 2 P.M. at Sotheby's, York Avenue at 72d Street, in a sale the auction house estimates will total between $755,000 and $1 million. WELCOME TO MY AUCTION! This is an antique book of wall paper samples. From 1916, from the Syracuse Wall Paper& Paint Co. of Buffalo, N.Y. It is a large soft cover book.measuring 18" X 15 1/2" X 1 1/4" Weighing over 6 lbs. There about 150 pages of many lovely designs. Including borders. The back page shows pictures of all the brushes& prices you could buy back then. As I indicated in the condition section. The book is well worn, with at least two torn pages, the front& back covers stained& discolored, and the page corners turned over& ragged. I have 4 more books from the same company. Up for auction is vintage ornate carved wood Pocket Watch holder display stand in the shape of a book. The aperture has a diameter of 1 ¾ inches. So will hold a standard, full sized gents watch. Measures approximately 3 inches tall 4 1/4 inches across the bottom. As pictured in good vintage condition with minor signs of wear& nice patina. As pictured a small split or crack in the back of the round wood base. I could not detect a makers mark. Pocket watch not included. Please examine pictures closely prior to bidding. The book measures 12 3/4" x 8 5/8" The front cover is detached from the catalog(also a 2 1/2" tear in the cover and some cover staining) but all of the other pages are intact.
