It came from an estate sale. The wooden cross is ... moreapproximately 14" x 8" There is a hole in the back for hanging on a wall. If laid flat. However, you can open the crucifix by pulling the top part of the cross down. Inside are stored a set of instructions, a glass Holy Water bottle, 2 candles, and absorbent cotton wrapped in blue tissue. Two holes on the side shorter board are exposed and hold the candles. It looks like the set was used at least once because the candles have been lit, but the set is in good overall condition. The plastic lid to the Holy Water bottle crumbled to pieces and the candles have melted together, probably from being stored in a hot attic or something similar. The edges of the Set of Instructions are yellow and crumbling but this does not affect the text. This is an interesting item and can always be hung on the wall for devotional use. Thanks for looking. Vintage 1950's Mid Century Deco Sick Call Crucifix This is a vintage sick call crucifix. Re-imagined by Catholic Tendencies. It is 12 1/2 inches high and the wood of the cross is blonde maple accented with black. The Crucifix slides off the base to reveal two candle receptacles, and an inner compartment that still contains the original candles, holy water vial, and visitation instructions! The corpus is bronze and beautifully detailed in the deco style, and the cross is embellished with leopard faux gem accents. I have had many sick call crucifixes over the years, and this is the only one I have seen done in this mid-century style. It is an oddly amazing piece and is meant for wall hanging or display on your altar.

Vintage Black Walnut Sick Call Crucifix By Catholic Tendencies This is a vintage sick call crucifix. Re-imagined by Catholic Tendencies. It is 12 1/4 inches high and the wood of the cross is Dark walnut accented with black. The Crucifix slides off the base to reveal two candle receptacles, and an inner compartment that used to contain candles, holy water, and instructions- items that in this case have been lost in the sands of time. The corpus is purple. Signifying royalty and spiritual enlightenment, with a golden crown of thorns and purple faux gem accents. Christ's loincloth is pink leopard skin because that is what this piece wanted to have- and no, I am not trying to be funny, artistic inspiration takes many strange paths. It is an oddly powerful piece and is meant to be hung on the wall or displayed on your altar.

Vintage 1960's Catholic Walnut Wall Crucifix Last Rites Priest Sick Call Kit and Wall Hanging Set was used by a priest for use in anointing the sick and for last rites. The crucifix was also meant to be used as a wall hanging. This particular crucifix was given to an ailing parishioner in the New Haven. Connecticut area in the 1960s. The crucifix measures approximately 13 1/2 inches high and 7 1/2 inches wide. It is made with walnut wood with front panel pieces made of faux mother of pearl. Trim pieces and the statuary of Jesus are polished metal. When the top section of the crucifix is removed. The base has a compartment. The compartment for this crucifix contains two never used beexwax candles, a small holy water bottle, a white cotton ball-like material(faded and old) and a green sheet of directions for use(brittle and folded) Other ... morecondition issues: The body of Jesus is missing some of the gold finish at the chest and on one of the legs. The small holy water bottle is empty. In addition. According to the instructions, this crucifix used to also include a small linen cloth. The cloth is MISSING from this set. The faux mother of pearl has started to slightly curve up due to typical aging. The wood has about five few very minor scuffs and dents(less than 1/8 inch long for each) Overall. This is a beautiful crucifix set and would work wonderfully as a wall hanging or part of a home prayer altar.
