The piece is made of red moire fabric and trimmed in red satin ribbon that is woven with crosses in simulated gold and with other detailing in green, purple, yellow and red. The edge is trimmed in yellow, red and green roping. Red is a color typically used for Pentecost or at Easter time. It is in excellent condition and looks to have seen little use. Difficult to date precisely. But I would guess 1940s or 50s. The piece is made of black rayon moire and lined in purple rayon acetate. The garment is crossed at both the front and back with purple velvet. The back has a printed image of Jesus wearing a crown of thorns- I believe that this chasuble would have been used for Good Friday service. Black and purple are colors typically used during Lent, but black was also used on All Souls Day and at funerals. The image of Jesus is quite beautiful, edged with metallic gold ... morerickrack and accented with gold and satin roping. It is in very good condition with the exception of some yellowish discoloration to the velvet, mostly to the top and bottom and at seam joints. Otherwise, it is in very good condition and looks great. It measures 55 across the top from the end of one sleeve, over the shoulders, and to the end of the other sleeve. Lovely purple VINTAGE CATHOLIC PRIESTS MANIPLES. Total length about 7 feet 11 inches long. The fabric is textured purple with a black satin on the back side. The embroidery is done in dense chain stitch with a gold thread outline. It appears that the embroidered imagery depicts the Alpha and Omega symbols. Very nicely constructed and in good condition. The robe measures in the back from the neck 39 3/8” and from the shoulder 43 5/8” long. It is 26” wide. The cross on the back is 39" x 22" x 8" It is composed of sheaves of wheat. Grape clusters, grape leaves and swirls and banded in a 1” wide ribbon. The front of the vestment from the neck measures 28” and from the shoulder 32 ¼” long. It is 23” wide tapering down to 14” wide. The front has the same embroidered designs as the back. The outside of the chasuble is a patterned emerald green, probably cotton, and the inside is a plain lighter green cotton. It is in very good condition. I think this silk IHS brocade cloth is a chalice veil. It measures approximately 18 inches square. The condition is excellent. But there is a teeny area where the fabric is soiled. It is barely noticeable, and I mention it only for accuracy in the listing. This spotlet appears to be recent, not a soaked in stain and would most likely remove. I have not attempted to clean it as I am a terrible laundress. It has a C.M. Almy& Son. Rye NY label sewn on the backside. Comes from a clean. Smoke-free, pet-free environment.
