1850s Antique Sheet Music RUSSIAN & AUSTRIAN National Anthem by FERDINAND BEYER
No 12 Russische NationalHymne- Vaterlands- Lieder Piano Forte- Ferdinand Beyer and No 11 Oesterreichische Volkshymne-Vaterlands-Lieder or Homeland Songs& Chants Patriotiques published by Mainz bei B. Schott's Sohnen. Brussel bei Gebruder Schott London bei Schott& Comp. There is not a publication date listed. But this sheet music came in a box with other sheet music dated 1850 and this paper looks the same age. It measures 13x10 and is in good condition with some chipping to the edges of the paper. Both national anthems are held together although barely. There is surface soiling and some foxing or toning on the paper and the Austrian National Anthem has some tape on the edges. There is a stamp in the corner of the paper of"The Nathan Richardson's Musical Exchange" which operated in Boston up to 1859, so again my estimation ... moreon the dating is most likely correct. These could have been published together because of the Hungarian Liberal Revolution(1848- 1849) which did not like Austrian's suppression. But which had Russia's full support. I am speculating on the origins of their publication and if anyone out there knows more please e-mail me. I would love to know more about this history.

The Crimean, now part of present-day Ukraine, was home of the Tartars(and before them ancient Greek settlements during the first millennium B.C. across the Black Sea from what was at the time this ring was produced, the Ottoman Empire, modern day Turkey. The ring bears a very elaborate pattern on the sides of the band wrapping almost all the way around to the back of the band. A similarly elaborate pattern embellishes all four sides of the bezel. It is quite substantial, and the design of the ring and the detailed metal work evidenced in the bezel and bands is very elaborate! There is however some wear(moderately light) to the intricate metalwork at the back and side of the band, and some of the pattern has been worn a bit. However almost all of the original embellishments are visible and intact, only slightly flattened with wear at the sides and back where the ring would have come in contact with the hand and adjacent fingers. They have a very beautiful worn and aged patina which almost has the appearance of gold- gilding due to the smoothness the brass surfaces have acquired from centuries of polishing. They have pierced mid-drip pans with abstracted symmetrical designs reminiscent of crosses or double headed eagles. The drip pans revolve around the lower part of the stem. The candlesticks have tall baluster uprights of graceful form and with 2.5" 6.4 cm) diameter drip pans at the top. The bases are square with inward curvature to the sides and small lobes at the corners where the'fleur-de-lis' cast feet are attached with through pegs or rivets. Visible on the top surface of the base. Decorative circular turnings on the flat and domed parts of the base. As well as on the stems. The undersides of the mid-drip pans show the original roughness from casting and file marks. As do the inner sides and bottoms of the feet. The undersides of the bases show the original turning marks and the lead-soldered round- domed brass nuts that hold the stems to the bases. Both candlesticks are in very fine antique condition with wear and a fine patina to the exterior surfaces. The bottoms of the feet show great wear. There are small fissures in the brass. Enamel10 Antique Enameled Pre-Revolution Silver Thimble Russian* Circa 1890-1900 This solid silver thimble has delicate twisted wire rimmed compartments filled with colorful enamel and it has been lightly gilded. The Russian silver mark is th e 84 zolotnik mark indicating 875/1000 pure silver and the crossed anchor crest to the right of it is the mark for St Petersburg(c. 1890s) It also has the maker's mark. Probably for Otto Pettelius. It is gilded inside. The condition is mint with not even a needle mark and the enamel is perfect. It's about an American size 9(16 mm opening) and is quite heavy(11.0 grams) Some Russian enameled thimbles in this style are shown on p. 126 of Bridget McConnel's book The Story of the Thimble and on color plate 2 of Thimbles& Sewing Implements by Estelle Zalkin. Stonetop7 Antique Stone Top Silver Thimble Russian* Circa 1890s This unusual solid silver thimble has a beautiful engraved and chased band featuring a floral design on a textured ground. It is set with a carnelian stone top with dimpled indentations. What's unusual is that it has a Russian silver hallmark. The 84 zolotnik mark indicates 875/1000 pure silver. The thimble style looks German though it's unusually high quality and lightly gilded. The Russian mark is the only one it has. I looked in all of my books to see if it could be an import mark. But I couldn't find an example of one. The condition is mint with no damage at all to the silver or the stone top. It's about an American size 6(14 mm diameter opening) and is gilded inside. However if one scrutinizes the gemstone in these 500% photo enlargements, or examines it very intently even with the naked eye, one can make out a spot where the gemstone exhibits just a little bit of smudginess, more pronounced from some angles of view, almost imperceptible from other angles of view. On the other hand, though the absolute transparency of the gemstone is slightly impaired by this smudgy or hazy spot, the color change characteristics are quite pronounced and considerably better than what one would normally find in a 3mm round alexandrite. The“smudginess” is caused by a widely dispersed scattering of microscopic colorless crystalline material. Of course being a natural gemstone. It’s more than likely going to have some blemishes. For sale is an antique. Engine turned silver matchbox holder, dating I'd imagine to the early 20th century, circa 1900-1910. The holder is in good condition, with only one small, not very noticeable dent. The holder is marked on the base of the spine. These hallmarks appear to be Russian to me, but I'm not 100% certain. The Crimean, now part of present-day Ukraine, was home of the Tartars(and before them ancient Greek settlements during the first millennium B.C. across the Black Sea from what was at the time this ring was produced, the Ottoman Empire, modern day Turkey. The ring is quite heavy, twice the weight of the typical ring of the era. The ring probably once bore a very elaborate stamped pattern on the sides of the band wrapping all the way or most of the way around to the back. However the bands have been worn entirely smooth except for the brace/embellishments when the bands meet the bezel, and the join is strengthened with the decorative element you see. While we’re not entirely sure that the bands were decorated with a stamped. Raised pattern(though most of the rings produced at this time and by this culture were) it’s unmistakably clear that a very ornate six-tier twisted rope motif embellishment decorates the circumferential ledge/skirt of the bezel. Up for sale is this Antique Orthodox Russian Kasanskaya Mother of God. Hand painted and crafted by unknown Russian artist, 19th century. Although I know very little about Russian icons, I am led to believe that the frame is silver, although there are no markings to verify this that we can read. The icon is painted in traditional Gesso/Egg Tempura, and measures 5" by 4 1/4" and the icon and frame are mounted on a wooden block with felt fabric backing.

That I believe is E.M. or E.A. it is worn. The Case is a nice size for use measuring 3-3/4" long by 2-3/8" wide and is 1/2 of an inch thick. It will hold cigarettes up to 3-1/4 inches long or would also be perfect for holding small treasures, pills, vitamins or even credit/debit or business cards. The Case has a quality weight of 106 grams and is quite sturdy being nice thick 875 Grade(87.5% Pure) Solid Silver throughout.
