Vintage Printers Wooden Type Set Tray Typeset Drawer
3 vintage wooden type set trays. Each measures 22" x 17" The first one has 98 compartments- all dividers in place. Each compartment is 1 1/4" x 2" There are pencil and red crayon marks(letters of alphabet) and no handle on the front. The second tray pictured has 28 small compartments that measure 1" x 2" 22 compartments that measure 1"x4" 14 that are 2 3/8" x 4" and largest is 2 3/8 x 6 1/4" Pencil and red letters marked on inside and no drawer handle. The last tray's compartments are the same size as first pictured- 1 1/4" x 2" There are two dividers missing so two compartments are double sized. A neat old printers drawer tray! This piece has more than 86 cubbies to hold all your typeset blocks or shadow box goodies. The tray is about 22" by 20" and has two holes that were used to attach to the wall. The tray has 4 metal hooks on one end. The drawer handle is made of metal and has a nice ornate design. 32" x 17" x 2" Hamilton Wood Printers Typeset Drawer/Shadow Box. 93 slots. this is a sturdy drawer. Metal drawer pull with Hamilton Marked on it. Please see pictures. What you see is the actual item you get. This drawer has 2 hooks on both ends of the top. Where it was hung on the wall full of miniatures. While I have lightly cleaned this drawer it is vintage and would need additional cleaning. This is little different with the two top rows being smaller.

These type cases have been in active use for around 50 years keeping the individual metal letters in order that are used in traditional letterpress printing and have stood the test of time well. They are in excellent original condition and have no damage. All of the dividers are in good order and have beautiful brass clips across the divider intersections that would polish up to a shine if desired. The wood has a rich natural patina and has been well cared for. You may want to give the compartments a dust/wipe out as the have been stood for sometime unused. There is minor wear to the wood in some places and some light pen marks where the compositor has marked a compartment with a letter but nothing above and beyond what you can see on ... morethe images. SIZE: Approx: 23" by 12 1/4" and 1 1/2" high. Old Wooden PRINTER's TYPE SET Drawer. With METAL(Tin? dividers, that are fitted into thin grooves in the wood. THIS IS ORIGINAL. I have seen a few like this, but not many. This is a very unusual structure for printer's drawers. Wooden frame is thick wood. You can take out the thin metal shelves. But most are quite tight, and you may have to really tug to get them out. With a little effort, you can re-arrange them. Some are missing on the one end. No name that I can see. Please view all pictures. CONDITION: Overall. Very good. Strong, Sturdy, all sides secure, some wear, as this was used for its intended purpose, many years ago. The Hamilton Manufacturing Co. started manufacturing these type block trays in 1888 in Two Rivers. WI. This tray is still clearly labeled for" 14 Point Casion Bold Condensed" type font& style) and was set up for the printing of" HOMEWARD THE SWALLOWS FLY" The tray is nice'n' flat and may have been refinished years ago.
