Measures aprox 104" long by 22" wide A lovely church tapestry. Might be an altar piece or a vestment. Features- gold metallic threading make up the tastes and ornate brocade work; stunning rich blue velvet. Silk background textile with jacked gold pattern. Backside is a blue silk with two long pockets. This backside fabric has some thinning which can be seen through. A original tag reads"Philippe Kunstenaar& Co. New York- Paris- Lyon made in France. Ornate metal hooks in gold are sewn on in two places. May be a way to tie on the piece and wear it.one of them needs to be sewn back on as it is loose. 2 ANTIQUE 1800's GOLD WIRE IRISH CATHOLIC VESTMENT TASSELS EXC NR
I know very little about these tassels. Other than they are very old, and are guaranteed as represented. They are made from hand twisted and wrapped gold wire, which I was told is 9K, but I can't confirm that. The provenance, which has been handed down verbally from generation to generation, is that they are from Ireland, and belonged to an Irish Catholic priest in the 1800's. They were apparently removed from the stoles or robes that he wore after he died, and kept by the family, who immigrated to the U.S. in the early 1900's. The person I got them from was a close friend of that family. I took them to the local Catholic church(St. Williams) and the deacon there said these items were very old, and had not been used by the church in recent history. Beyond that, he could give no other information. I also tried the Mission San Luis ... moreObispo, but got nowhere there either. Even if they are not real gold, they have a long religious history, and would be great conversation items. They measure about 3-1/4" long, and weigh about 2.5 grams each. Offered for auction is an antique green Roman chasuble set from a vestment collection with chasuble. Stole, maniple,and burse. It needs to be sold quickly hence the low price for the Buy-It-Now. Overall condition is good antique(see below, and pics) The embroidery is blue and that gives the overall color but the base fabric when you look at it is green. The ophreys are beautifully embroidered. Label indicates that it was made in France. Apologies for the poor quality of the photos. And please feel free to ask for more or any other details. It is made of a red silk damask weave brocade fabric with a woven floral pattern. Colorful chain stitch embroidery work done in a floral fancy rococo design and gold metallic lamé trim edging, creating a cross on the back. This religious Catholic priests vestment chasuble has a loose fitting poncho style with open sides and is fully lined. The chasuble measures 37 inches long and 26 inches wide.
