Antique Solid Oak Cash Register Sign Top Original Glass Insert Your Own Sign! Lots of oldees for you this week- some very cool and very old primitives. Fabulous retro industrial, wonderful original artwork, and even some deco thrown in- there’s something for everyone! loveLoveLOVE this one! I didn't know what it was. When I first picked it up, but I was told that it is an old cash register topper- you would have looked through the two glass window panes to see the price labels as they pop up. Made of solid oak, and I can see some tiger graining in it too in spots, the finish is deep, dark and absolutely yummy! It measures 12" wide by 6" at the base, and is 3 3/8" tall to the top of the piece. It weighs 1 1/2 lbs. On the one side of the base, you can see that there are 10 holes in the base. I'm not sure what the holes ... morewere used for originally, but I found out through trial that a standard sized pen or pencil fits in each hole perfectly(not what it was originally for, but what it could be repurposed for now! There's two screw mount holes at the back of the base by the holes discussed above, and one screw mount hole in the center of the front part of the base. The glass pane at the front is angled inside of the frame, and the glass at the back of the frame is straight, not angled. The opening for the pane is 9 3/4" wide by 2 1/2" tall. I'm saying this because I thought it would be really cool to use this to display your own sign or message- the base of the piece is open, so it would be easy to insert. The two glass panes are set inside of the wood frame of the piece, but do not appear to be affixed- like glued down, I mean. That being said, it appears that you'd have to unscrew the top piece of wood that runs the length of the very top in order to remove the glass(if you wanted to- not sure why you would, though) There is a straight headed screw on either side- both screws have a very dark patina, and the surrounding wood is black from age. LARGE 23" CARVED LEAPING BASS FISH: BAIT SHOP TRADE SIGN ORIGINAL PAINT ANTIQUE
CARVED LEAPING BASS: VINTAGE HAND PAINTED B AIT SHOP TRADE SIGN W ITH INTACT SHABBY LETTERING. PITTED PAINT. This is a large bait shop sign from the Sodus NY region. On Lake Ontario, near Rochester NY. It is the last of two from an estate auction. I have no other information as to the original shop, age, or sign maker. The main sign board is 23 1/2" long from mouth tip to f a r tail point. 13" tall. And 3/4" thick. T he lettering seems a strong and dull bold black from a distance. But look at photo 7(large A) For the true weathered condition. The letters show brush marks. Not stencil and spra y paint. And are shadowed by off white. The bell y is creamy white blending to light green at the midline. Then darker green at the top(dorsal) surface. The fish's sides have the mottled darker vertical bands characteristic of large ... moremouth bass. The board was wall-mounted with two nails or screws. The holes show best in the last photo. Just left of the center of the"B" and right of the center of"T" There is m i nor paint chipping at the holes but no dry rot. The paint all over is pitted and pockmarked but mostly intact. The board is clear grain with no knots or splits. The sign is made from one wide 13- 14" board. The reverse side(next to last photo) is roughly painted a yellowed white with marginal slop-over paint from the front. The fish is carved in bas-relief for a rounded appearance. The fins are incised deeper(photo 6) to stand out. The sign is still st rong and intact with the usual min or dings and dents. There are no repairs. The sign should be handle d with some care as the thin tail section i s naturally suscept i ble to damage. Look at the photos. Ask any questions before bidding. Each leg features intricate Victorian swirl designs. The cast iron blade portion reads"REX" with a"24" on both sides indicating that this device cuts paper 24" wide. This roller would have been mounted in a general store for the merchant to wrap up your items or gifts nicely to transport safely. Each cast iron leg features two holes for easy mounting to a counter. This item measures 28 1/2" long by 11 1/2"tall and is 3" in depth. It is in pretty good condition. Antique Trade Sign Garden Shop Nursery DECO FOXGLOVES Weathered, Copper Stake
DECO LETTERED OLD GARDEN SHOP WOOD AND COPPER BED MARKER This is a FOXGLOVE bed marker sign from defunct per ennial nursery outside of Schenectady. NY. The lettering was by brush. Not stencil and sp ray paint. Some type of grit was incorporated into the black paint to make the letters raise above the board. The letters are still strong and bold dull black. But there is some loss of paint- photo 4. The second photo shows a simple decorative edge that is on all sides. The stake is a piece of copper pipe with the characteristic blue/green age deposits(verdigris. The pipe friction- fits into the hole shown in the next to the last phot o. It is very secure when inserted and takes a little twist to remove. All the paint- front and back- is heavily pockmarked and pitted with some grime and general soiling. The sign had been stored for some time ... morein an outbuilding. It's certainly weathered but would showcase a perennial bed and look like it had been there forever. DIMENSIONS: Wooden sign is 10- 1/8" long. 3- 9/16 tall. A touch over 3/4" thick. Copper pip e-stake is 3/8" diameter. And 11" long. Shipping will be a bit hi gh since the copper is relatively heavy. Fantastic dental antique Circa 1850 I retired from dentistry. This piece has been in my private collection for nearly 20 years.This is advertisement for Brown Brothers in Austin, Il. Austin is located on the Western edge of Chicago.When these doctors were in practice, This piece was discovered by my mother inside a childrens book she bought.This is hand printed on a napkin type material.It most likely was displayed in a hotel to advertise the dentist and his services. You will note there is no phone number for his office. This no doubt was made before telephones were invented. You will notice in the ad the wording& terms they use for their services is very interesting. They are covering all of the marketing bases.I like their address. Earlier centuries were very pale. Creams, buff, off white. backgrounds. This does not appear to be a censer. There are no holes in the lid, or at least the images show the medallions to be painted blue. A censer must have holes to allow the smoke to rise. It is more likely( due to its size also) a ginger jar, or spice jar. If the medallions are actually open, then this would have been for commercial or ceremonial use, not domestic. The largest is a big heavy brass skeleton key, measures 5-1/2" long. As you can see this key has some some bends, this would have been for a huge lock, and with patina appears to extremely old. The smallest is only about 7/8" long, probably off an old jewelry box. The one with no teeth has a square shaped end. This one was used to lock/ unlock public restrooms circa 1950's. Nice assortment. Probably used as a trade sign suspended above some type of shop. The axe has a wooden handle and a blade of tin or zinc filled with sawdust. There is a little hole with threads in it on one side of the handle, which may have provided a way for the axe to be hung up. I cannot guarantee that this piece was intended as a trade sign, but I believe that is likely to be its purpose. It is hard to say exactly when this piece was made. It is almost certainly American in origin. It was probably made between the 1850s and the 1880s. A fabulous piece of folk art. The axe is in good condition overall. Some of the seams have split open over the years. Most noticeably on the top point ... moreof the axe blade. The seams could probably be filled in with some epoxy if you wanted to. There are no other splits, no breaks, and no repairs. The axe is 41 1/2 inches long. Life-size. Good luck and bid with confidence. Antique Boston Fire Department/Station Entrance Sign
This window is an entry sign from old Boston Fire House. It was most likely above the main entrance to the station. Or above the Chief's door. I'm not sure of its exact age, but it is roughly 100 years old. The hooks on the top are not original and were added for hanging purposes. The glass and graphics are in great shape, and the wood is all solid, but the paint on the wood frame is showing its age. It is 40" wide x 28" high x 2" thick. A great piece of Boston history. If the shipping is less then I will refund the difference. I do that with everything I sell.
