UP for your consideration this week is a wonderful Estate Sale Find. A really neat Vintage Oak Carved Bread Box most likely from the 1970's possibly earlier. She is made from solid Oak and is heavy. Opens from the front, Can hold plenty of bread and is definitely a charmer. As you can see, she has some seperation in the wood at the bottom but it's not weak it's very solid in that area, a few nics, but nothing major(I think that's what gives her, her true charm) She is a beauty that will last you many years to come. Beautiful heavy vase. I think crafted in the late 1980's. I aquired in a lot with the buy out that included the Murano Art glass sweets I offer. But am unsure of origin. That was in the early 1990's and all pieces were in storage a few years before I purchased. This piece has no signature, label or makers marks. Nice wide rim, two turn splash glass. Could be a Fenton design style. Weighs 2 pounds 3 ounces and is free of damage. Wide open rim with scallop edge. Could use a good cleaning as has been in storage. I had trouble with this listing. Measurement: 3.5 x 1 x 6.5 Weight: 0.22 lb. About Bidri: Bidri. Was introduced to India by the Mughals, when they ruled the town of Bidar in Karnataka. The technique involves the inlay of pure Silver patterns in an alloy of Copper and Zinc. Each Bidri piece is cast separately. First a mould is made from ordinary soil and molten metal alloy is poured into it. The newly cast piece is smoothened with files and scrapers. The artist then rubs the piece with a solution of Copper Sulphate to obtain a temporary black coating on which he etches the design. The designs are drawn freehand with a sharp metal stylus. The article is then firmly fixed on a waxed stone or held in a vice ... morewhile the craftsman, engraves the design into the grooves. He carefully hammers in pure Silver in the form of a fine wire or flattened chips. The product is then rigorously filed and buffed again. The Bidriware is now ready for the final treatment, which makes the alloy surface permanently black. This is achieved in an unusual way-a particular type of soil(available only in Bidar) is mixed with chemicals. The paste thus produced is rubbed onto the heated Bidri surface. This handkerchief has holes you can see in the photos. The Embroidered"M" has appliqued decorations around it. White on White. This handkerchief has 2 small holes(only millimeters big) But they are on the opposite half of the handkerchief from the embroidered corner.
