Vintage White Bead Rosary from Roma Italy
Vintage White Bead Rosary from Roma Italy. This is old but I can't say how old. The Crucifix was really coated badly with something when I got it in a mixed box at an estate sale. I could tell it said something so before I threw it out I decided to try cleaning it up. That's when I discovered the Roma Italy. The crucifix is 1.25" x.75" and has a silver finish. The chain appears to be brass and is heavily oxidized. The medal appears to be brass also although it is not as oxidized as the chain. The beads are elongated rectangles of what appears to be white onyx but may be glass. Upon close examination of the chain you can see a couple of repairs. It is clear it is old and used faithfully. I hope it can find a new home. Thank you for your time.

Vintage White Oval Glass Bead& Brass Crucifix. Unsigned This came from a local estate sale. So I believe this rosary is from about the 1970's. The beads are an opaque milky white and are either some kind of stone or glass. I believe the crucifix is made of brass, and it currently has a nice patina. Jesus and Mary are on the medal. May need cleaning depending on your preference. I could not find a signature on this piece. This rosary has a nice feel. And makes a pleasant noise when the beads are touched. Length from end to end is 23.5" long x drop 6.75" x 34" total necklace length. Would make a nice gift! True vintage rosary!

This piece tests positive for bakelite with Simichrome. The rosary measures just shy of 19" long with the bottom pendant at 5" long. The necklace weighs 65 grams. The barrel beads measure 1/2" long and have a full and round shape with beautiful rich butterscotch and caramel colors that are made to simulate Amber. The beads along the bottom have nice shapes and there are no chips or surface wear to the bakelite. The bakelite has a high sheen and luster that shows off the pretty marbling. The rosary appears to be on its original strand with carmel colored woven string that has little wear or age. The strand is full and firm and appears ... moreto be in original condition. Its attachment rings taking it to a total height of 4cms, made from gilded metal with scarlet and white enamelled detailing, some surface corrosion to the large pendant ring. The smaller crucifix is 2cms high. Pendant rings taking it to 3.25cms in total, made from gold-tone metal with white and emerald enamelling and in perfect condition. They look rather Celtic in style but the gilding suggests that they are continental.

The War Department issued brass silver washed rosaries to any Catholic soldier who requested one. Likewise, if a Catholic Chaplain requested a special sterling silver version of the enlisted style rosary, the Priest was given one. Because there were far fewer Chaplains than enlisted men, and given the fact that not all requested the silver rosary, there were far fewer of these special ones from the beginning. Over time. The Chaplains who possessed the silver rosaries often gave them away to soldiers under extraordinary circumstances, when giving one of the regular ones wasn't feasible. Some were lost, others confiscated by enemy captors; the already rare silver ball chain rosaries became ... moreever scarcer. This lot contains three crosses and one rossary. One cross is very LARGE and hosts amazing designs on it but is not marked. The chain it is on measures 20 inches in length and is beautiful but is also not marked. The second cross is marked and signed by the maker. It is gold filled 12K over sterling silver. The chain it comes with is also 12K gold filled. The third cross does not have a chain but is marked on the back of the cross. I can't read the marking. I tried to take pictures of this marking. But it covers the hole back of the cross and would not turn out in the photographs. The fourth piece is a large and quite beautiful rossary. This rossary is not marked. The lovely vintage Rosary consists of 6mm long by 5mm diameter apple green and lime green Bakelite'Jade' beads. Plus a large 4.2cm long by 2.7cm wide clear Celluloid'amber' crucifix with a silver plated figure of Christ. The beads are linked by silver metal wire links. In very good vintage condition. Vintage WWII Catholic Military Soldier's Metal Brass Lamp Chain Rosary 16"
Vintage Rosary This interesting old 16" rosary has all metal beads. They were often called"lamp chain" or"pull chain" rosaries and were carried by Catholic soldiers during the war. The metal appears to be brass. The centerpiece has a silver finish. And if you look with a magnifier, you can see that the silver has worn in spots with the brass showing through. The crucifix is about 1 1/2" long with the letters"INRI" at each corner. The centerpiece has the Blessed Virgin Mary on one side and the Sacred Heart of Jesus on the reverse. Condition: It has all its beads and is in good vintage condition with the expected wear. I have not cleaned or polished it. Please see all the pictures and use zoom for detail. Catholic Vintage Metal Pull Chain Type Rosary WWI WWII Military Style
This is a vintage rosary acquired from an estate. It is the metal ball pull chain style and I was told that these were used in the military? It is 16 3/4" long and is in very good used condition. A magnet does not stick to any of it. I'm guessing that the chain part is a nickel plated brass. The cross and little center medal may be the same except that they have a slightly tarnished look and I think they look like silverplate? A very nice piece to add to a collection.
