Vintage Catholic Prayer Book Missal for Children Mint Condition Circa 1950's Beautifully Illustrated This wonderful treasure. Simply titled"Divine Light" is not dated, but appears to be from the 1950's era. The imprimatur was given by Archbishop James Duhig(who served between 1917-1965) It was printed in Italy. It has 63 pages. And includes gorgeous full color illustrations on almost every page. It has a hard black leatherette cover with a full color picture of Our Lady of Grace with a gold gilt frame. Its just a bit larger than 3" x 5" This is one of the nicest Children's prayer books that I've seen! It is in perfect MINT CONDITION. MISSAL leaf. In Latin, ILLUMINATED MANUSCRIPT on vellum. Most likely from France(Brittany) C. 1430s. 315 x 230 mm. This leaf contains the Preface Per omnia secula seculorum from the Canon of the Mass. Gold. Both burnished and liquid, is used lavishly in the elegant decoration of this leaf. Leaf with a full-page border with bars of burnished gold and pink or blue beside sprays of blue and gold acanthus and naturalistic flowers and fruit infilled with hairline tendrils with golden disks and trefoils and occasional flowerheads, two columns with 30 lines in black ink in a gothic bookhand between four verticles and 31 horizontals ruled in grey. Verso with line of music of square notation on a four-line red stave, rubrics in red or gold, one to four-line initials of burnished gold with grounds and infills of blue and pink decorated with white penwork, ... morefour- to seven-line initials with staves of pink or blue patterned white against burnished gold grounds with sprays of red and blue trefoils in the infill. WWII 48 star casket flag, My Military missal, shot record Sgt. Albert F Holczman
Albert F Holczman lied about his age and enlisted on his 16th birthday June 20.1942" said his nephew. From the estate of his brother comes these few personal effects sent to his parents after his death. The flag shown here was given to his parents in memoriam. They where so devastated with his loss the flag was never used or even taken out of its original box. It measures 3'6"x6'8"It is in remarkably good shape for being over 70yo. It does have some staining/yellowing along some of the folds. The VA gave these flags to all the servicemen's families that where buried overseas. This is why it was never used on the casket or folded into the triangle shape. Next we have his Catholic Missal"My Military Missal" was given to any service member that requested one. It was small enough to to be carried with them ... moreinto battle, yet it had all the prayers need to hold services in the field. Last there is the immunization registration for Sgt. Holczman complete with his serial number. The 63rd Infantry Division On 6 November 1944, the 63rd Infantry Division advance party left Camp van Dorn by train for Camp Shanks, New York and ultimate shipment to France. The advance party or forward element of the division was known as Task Force Harris and consisted of the three Infantry Regiments, the 253rd, 254th and 255th plus a small supporting staff. The Task Force was commanded by Brigadier General Frederick M. Harris. Task Force Harris arrived in Marseille, France on 8 December 1944 and after a few days in a staging area moved by road and rail to Camp d'Oberhoffen, France located about midway betwen Colmar and Sarreguemines. By the end of December 1944, Task Force Harris was disbanded and all three regiments were reassigned to various divisions of the 6th Army Group. The 253rd was attached to the 44th Infantry Division in the Sarreguemines-Riming area; the 254th was attached to the 3rd Infantry Division in the Colmar Area, and the 255th was attached to the 100th Infantry Division near Bitche. As shown with bordered floral gilt designs to boards; spine with raised bands and siliar designs in the compartments. Measuring 8.25" x 5,5" x 2" the page edges are also shining gilt, and the book comes complete with its original ribbon markers. Text red and black rubricated, with numerous copper plate engravings of various Saints, as shown. Text in Latin and Italian, with some light staining and browning. This is a vintage New Saint Joseph Missal And hymnal ©1968-1967 by Catholic Book Publishing Co. N.Y. United States and Canada- Printed in U.S.A. It is in good condition. It has a small 3/8 inch tear near the spine on the back at the top. A few of the pages have a light stain which looks like the result of a bookmark being left in it. The edges of the book are red. And there are some white spots on the top and side edges. There is a large white spot on the side edge. You can see the picture above. There is light damage to the edge there, but nothing that makes it unreadable. There is a bit of wear to the edges and corners that you can see in the above pictures. The book is in overall good condition for its age and years of use.

These were found with a WWII soldier's military papers. The covers have 1943 dates on them. The backs say that they were published at The Catholic Center in Ottawa. Canada. These have some overall darkening from age. One small brochure titled"For God and Country. This is dated 1942. It has a prayer inside for Victory and Peace. The prayers inside are in English on one side and Italian on the other side. These are from the Church of St. Theresa in the Bronx. NY. One small paper titled"Ours.to pray for" about joining Mary's Kneeling Army. The back explains that this was a Novena that was done from Nov. 19 to Nov 27. 1944. Here you have a poignant WWII GI item. The listing represents a named. 1942 Catholic Serviceman’s My Military Missal in good condition. The prayer book has a black cover with red lettering and represents a rare personal item that was distributed by the National Catholic Community Service, an Agency of the USO. The My Military Missal was carried by a sailor. The cover shows some wear as do the pages. The prayer book addresses the critical spiritual issue of Mass when at war. The missal is dated 1942 and was edited by Father Stedman for all branches of the armed forces. It is also noted as being known as the Manual of Prayers. The inside of the cover provides advice for Catholics in the service(including seeking out your chaplain) There is also a section for reading the Mass if(in combat) one is unable to attend a chaplain’s service. There ... moreis also a page where Catholic GIs receive dispensation from fasting except for the Christmas Vigil. Ash Wednesday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday. There are special prayers for soldiers, for Sailors– Marines– coast guard, and airmen as well as the home front relatives of servicemen and women. All the pages are legible. The missal represents a poignant personal item that reflects the patriotism of the Catholic faith during WWII. The pages are clear and legible. And shows normal wear. There is some pencil mark scribbles on a couple of pages. These type of small pocket size prayer books were carried in the field. The Prayer Book is named to a sailor. Inked to the inside cover is the name R.P. Tessier. He was a Quartermaster 2nd Class. His service number was 2039875. As a named item it should command a premium given the direct tie to the serviceman. Also. With the information, the book could be researched and there may be provenance. My uncle told me it was true that there were no atheists in a foxhole and this missal would have brought comfort to a GI or Sailor far from home and in harm’s way. It is 129 pages long. Hinges intact. Sadly, lacking title page, so unable to determine imprint. We do know the pagination however of the main text and the Vespres section at the rear, which are 632(45) The prelims start at the front on signature a2, with the sigs a2-a8, b-b8, and c-c8 present. The main text signatures are A-A8. through Qq8. Then, the final section contains signatures à- à8. É- é8. And finally î- î8. Nearly miniature in size. Caen: G. Le Roy. 1770. Rare Latin& French Catholic liturgical piece bound in gorgeously adorned thick leather covers and spine. As shown with bordered floral gilt designs to boards; spine with raised bands and similar designs in the compartments. Contains texts from the Breviary and Missal, together with prayers for individual use. Measuring 6.75" x 4" x 2.5" the page edges are also shining gilt, and the book comes complete with its original ribbon marker. Text with frontis copper plate engraving, as well as several smaller woodcuts in text, as shown. Text in Latin and French, with some light staining and browning. Marbled endpapers. Hinges shaken a little, resulting in a few loose pages in front and rear. A small inscription to the title of a Madame Ernault the only mark. Stunning presence. Good luck!

Original German WW2 Missal printed in 1939 but with a handwritten inscription from 1941. A very nice item for the German WW2 personal items collection or display and great for a German Army Catholic Chaplain collection or display. It shows some wear but is solid and in good shape with no tears or missing pages(remember this is basically a 74 year old bible. It is in both German and Latin language. It measures 6 1/8 x 4 1/8 x 1 1/4" with over 1000 pages.

This is an antique paroissien romain missal Printed in French. I'm not sure the exact print date but there is a calendar in the front with the date of 1899 listed so I'm guessing it had to of been printed then or before. You can see it in the pictures. I would say the condition is fair to good given the age of over 100 years. The clasp does work. All of the pages are there but the binding isn't completely together, There is also some writing in the back from a child at some point it was in my family but I don't recognize the name. The art on the cover is a beautiful cross. Would really like to see this go to someone who can appreciate it more than I do. Thank you for looking. There is some knicks and wear to the edges of the leather hard cover but it is beautiful. The Front and back have the same embossed(inner) symbol on it. All the the pages are in very good condition except 1 that appears to have been crumpled minorly(prolly closed the book with the page in it wrong 1 time SEE PIC#8) On 1 of the first pages I can feel the lettering embossed or lying ... moreon the paper as if printed on a press. The VERY Last leaf from a Roman Catholic Latin Missal. Which was published in Passau(i.e. Bavaria in Germany) in 1507 by the printer, J. Winterberger. Originally all books were printed in black ink(with a scribe or rubricator later adding the handwritten red letters) But this leaf illustrates very well how each page was printed TWICE: first, with black ink, and second with red ink to fill in the headings, initials letters, instructions, etc. see the scanned images) This is a very early example of such double printing. Size of the sheet is about 6 in. x 8 in. The Missal in the Catholic Church. Is a liturgical book containing all instructions and texts necessary for the celebration of Masses throughout the year. The Roman Missal(Missale Romanum) published by Pope St. Pius V in 1570, eventually replaced the widespread use of different missals ... moreby each episcopal see. The first complete translation of the Missal into English took place in 1969 when the Order of Mass was reformed by Pope Paul VI. This Missal was intended for use by the Italian Cassinese Congregation, a part of the Benedictine Order, founded in 1408. There are thirty-six lines of black and red Gothic text in two columns. Leaves containing music consist of a four line stave in red with black notes and text. Numerous full-page and small woodcuts are found throughout the Missal.
