This wonderful necklace features a very rare antique religious shrine from France sterling silver or sterling plate?accented by a very large faceted ruby teardrop. The chain is oxidized sterling silver and has been embellished with vintage mother of pearl fleur de lys beads. Rubies, rhinestone rondelles and more mother of pearl. The clasp is a sterling silver ring and Victorian sterling silver T bar. The top of the shrine also opens and closes tightly. In excellent condition. With a wonderful patina that gives the piece a lot of character. Total length of the chain is 29 and a half inches approx.

For your consideration here is a HARD-to-FIND AL MALAIKAH MASONIC TEMPLE& SHRINE AUDITORIUM ORIGINAL REMODEL BROCHURE from 1920- 1925( The front cover says"A CIVIC NEED FULFILLED" and is a complete presentation of the extensive restoration/remodel work done to this LOS ANGELES building in the late teens to early 1920s. The brochure is not dated(that I can find) But it does state that the"MOEHLER organ, costing $50,000, is now being built for the Shrine and will be installed in the Auditorium sometime in March, 1926. Thus, I've concluded that this beautiful brochure is from 1925 or earlier. The brochure consists of 20 pages with color ... moremoorish style designs on the front and back inside covers. There is a lovely lithograph in the front and prints of other lithos for each section. Each section recaps the vision and work done to the building to create this updated and historic center for LOS ANGELES in the 1920s. I beleive this shrine is still an active Masonic group in LA. The last page in the brochure also lists the PAST POTENTATES of the group and this list stops with Wm. E. Bush in 1918. It's in EXCELLENT/MINT condition with NO damage at all. I believe it was obtained by my husband's father, who was also a MASON, possibly on an early road trip to CA. and was put away as a souvenir. We have been cleaning out old boxes and found this gorgeous brochure. Hopefully, some collector will keep it safe in a MASONIC or LOS ANGELES collection for others to enjoy. Measures.75” Has a pin and locking catch on the reverse. The Ladies’ Oriental Shrine of North America(LOSNA) was founded in Wheeling. West Virginia in 1903, when the Ladies of Osiris Shriners were invited to attend the social events and festivities surrounding Osiris’ Spring Ceremonial. When the Shriners departed for their Initiation Ceremony, the Ladies were having so much fun, they didn’t want to stop. They surveyed the McClure Hotel and in a joyous mood, began to parade through the halls. They eventually arrived at one of the hotel’s conference rooms. JAPANESE SIGNED ANTIQUE BRONZE BUDDHIST SHRINE VASE PHOENIX KIRIN RELIEF
A unique Japanese fluted bronze vase from the mid Edo Era(c. 1780) It was used to hold flowers and evergreens in the traditional Japanese butsudan(Buddhist shrine) These family heirlooms were handed down from generation to generation. The relief on this vase includes both phoenixes and kirin. Popular animals in Japanese mythology and religion. The phoenix represents a new beginning after destruction because the bird is said to burn to ash and emerge reborn, while the kirin is a type of Japanese chimera(mythical animal made with parts of other animals, both mythical and real) composed of a dragon's head, a tiger's body with scales, and the tail of a lion. Seeing either of these animals was said to prophesize the coming of a new and great ruler. This particular bronze vase was cast over 200 years ago and features two phoenix shaped ... morehandles(see pictures) And features the artist Nakao Munesada's signature on the bottom(see picture 8) Also seen in my enlarged pictures are the garden scenes on both sides of the vase in deep relief. It has been well used yet well loved and has a deep aged patina; it is overall in very fine condition. It has a very attractive shape with a fluted top and a waisted bottom. It measures 5 3/4" high by 4 1/2" across(14.5 x 11.5 cm) and is a nice thick bronze that holds water and would make an exceptional flower container. You'll love it.
